SUPERMAN & LOIS Season 3 Will End On A Cliffhanger Despite Uncertainty About Possible Season 4 Renewal

SUPERMAN & LOIS Season 3 Will End On A Cliffhanger Despite Uncertainty About Possible Season 4 Renewal

It's been confirmed that Superman & Lois season 3 ends with "a bit of a cliffhanger," and with still no news from The CW on plans for a possible fourth season, this isn't the news fans have been hoping for.

The CW still hasn't made a decision about Superman & Lois and Gotham Knights' respective futures, though we're sadly not holding out hope for the Man of Steel.

James Gunn is in the midst of rebooting the character for the big screen, and with all future DC projects set to fit under the same DCU umbrella, it's doubtful he'll want to have two different versions of Kal-El on our screens at the same time. Still, there's always hope for a fourth season that ends the show on a high, right?

We certainly hope so, especially when The CW network president Brad Schwartz has confirmed season 3 ends on a cliffhanger!

"The ending this season is amazing," he recently told TV Line. "You’ve got some Lex Luthor in there...I don’t want to give any spoilers, but the end of the season is great — and it’s got a bit of a cliffhanger."

These comments come shortly after Schwartz said, "We don’t have the rights to the prior seasons [of Superman & Lois]. You need to have a library [for people to find a show] and the prior seasons are [on HBO Max]." He also revealed that it's, "expensive [and] doesn’t make money for us."

None of that is really going in the show's favour right now, but with James Gunn calling the shots at DC Studios, we're hoping he'll allow Superman & Lois' creative team to give the series a fitting sendoff.

Doing so would avoid the filmmaker being plagued by #RestoreTheSupermanAndLoisVerse Tweets when Superman: Legacy rolls around, anyway!

A decision about the show's future is expected to be made imminently, and that should give fans some level of closure either way. You'll want to keep checking back here for updates as we have them.

Earlier this month, we spoke with Superman & Lois star Daya Vaidya about her villainous role as Onomatopoeia. Check that out in the player below.

@philinterrupted - Well considering everyone was pretty much saying this show would go on for 5 seasons, it's not surprising. S&L is also one of their stronger shows so it's not like they could've anticipated this. No one knew that all this other shit would be happening behind the scenes and I'm sure they already finished filming the season beforehand.

@Himura - if you don’t have a renewal already set, don’t write a cliffhanger.
Having a story with a satisfying ending that leads into a new season is infinitely better than not having an ending at all.

The only acceptable scenario is if they had a renewal and it was taken away after everything was done.

@Himura - they should have been worried after the cw cancelled majority of it's scripted television last year

We all know how it ends. The dude is going to find out his gf is a stoner and he's going to be forced to either dump her or physically stone her to death.

It's silly to end seasons on cliffhangers, you can have hanging threads to keep people invested but this is just asking for frustration if it gets cancelled.

LOL!

End the trainwreck WB DC crapverse with something so stupid that it slaps its few remaining fans right in the face.

Too funny for words.

They should do a a short 7-10 episode final season to finish it. Still plenty of time before Gunn’s Superman movie.

Never seen the show to be quite honest, but I can't stand when networks do that and never want to give us a proper finale.

I can hope that if this is the last season, they just shoot one or two episodes to wrap up that cliffhanger then

@bkmeijer1 - Yeah I definitely I wouldnt mind a 90 minute special as a compromise for a full season.

@Himura - exactly. A two-parter to put the third season on 15 episodes as well would be nice.

Someone with WB said this does decent with streaming and live viewers but doesn’t make money so there’s really no way this continues. Interesting choice to end it on a cliffhanger.

Todd Helbing saw what happened to Legends of Tomorrow last year because the showrunner was a daredevil that ignored the warnings Mark Pedowitz gave ALL the shows about being in the bubble. Others were also affected to similar degrees but Legends' case was the worst. Even The Flash was getting ready to end with S8 until they were given Season 9.

How could he have seen those cases and especially the precautions Geoff Johns took with Stargirl and STILL go ahead and do this? Talk about arrogance and sheer reckless behaviour. Nexstar HATES scripted shows, they don't want to spend a single penny on any original production. They are cheap. They are so cheap and damn greedy that they were not gonna let The Winchesters be renewed unless they cut down 80% of their budget.

He really believes he's the exception because he has a superhero show?

What a moron. Only because I don't want the young cast to end up losing their jobs as the new gen of heroes (well at least Alex Garfin and Tayler Buck because poor Jonathan is always sidelined in his own show for not having powers) I hope Max picks them up. But this dude doesn't deserve to be a showrunner. What a joke.
