ARROW Star Stephen Amell Addresses His THE FLASH Return; "Why? Doesn't Matter. How? Doesn't Matter."

Earlier this week, we learned that Arrow star Stephen Amell will return to the Arrowverse for The Flash's final season, and the actor has now shared a lengthy statement on his surprise DC comeback...

The news broke earlier this week that Arrow alum Stephen Amell will return as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow in the ninth and final season of The Flash. There's no word on how that will happen (the character died twice before we big him a final farewell), but Arrowverse fans are understandably excited.

Now, Amell has taken to Instagram to share the story behind his comeback and made it clear that the how and why of it all aren't overly important right now.

"I'm coming back for the ninth and final season of The Flash. Why? Doesn't matter. How? Doesn't matter. Greg Berlanti called me up, and he said, 'The Flash is ending. Would you like to...' and I said, 'Yes! You don't even have to finish your sentence.'"

"I have always, always loved coming over - as Oliver Queen, Green Arrow, Spectre, a Nazi, the Flash, you name it - to The Flash. I love the cast. I love the crew."

"So, for Greg Berlanti, thank you. For Eric Wallace, thank you. For Grant [Gustin] and Candice [Patton] and Danielle [Panabaker], who's directing, and the rest of the cast, thank you for having me. Don't ask me any more f***ing questions about it. Just tune in when it airs later this year."

The Fastest Man Alive debuted in Arrow season 2 and the two characters frequently crossed paths, including in The CW's first DC TV crossover.

Amell's return will play out in the ninth episode, though he'll be joined by Keiynan Lonsdale as Wally West/Kid Flash, David Ramsey as John Diggle/Spartan, Sendhil Ramamurthy as Ramsey Rosso/Bloodwork, and Nicole Maines as Nia Nal/Dreamer. Clearly, it's going to be a star-studded instalment of The Flash, and one we hope will give Green Arrow a memorable role.

The Flash season 9 is set to premiere on February 8.

Honestly, well said. They can say anything. It's a comic book tv show. Flash travels through time, deal with it. Let a fan favorite come back to send the show off

He could come back as the spectre, and travel with Barry to the past to meet Oliver when he’s alive and then bring him back to life at the end of the episode. It’s comicbook anything can happen

@Twenty23Three - id say don't bring him back to life. His death was the best thing about crisis. Keep him spectre, maybe explain why he has no powers or use time travel to bring an alive Oliver for this episode. But don't undo a good thing.

Cwverse is ending anyway so there's really no benefit in undoing the death.

Say all you want about his acting chops, I [frick]ing LOVE Captain Amell. Hes such an awesome guy. When he lets his true self shine through Oliver like he did in later seasons, hes actually very charismatic and commands scenes. I always forget how much I like this guy. I guess imma tune in for this now.
