The CW recently announced that the ninth and final season of The Flash will premiere on on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, and TV Insider has now shared word on a surprising addition to the cast.

Supergirl alum Nicole Maines is reportedly set to reprise her role as Nia Nal, aka Dreamer, for the upcoming season.

“As Supergirl fans ourselves, all of us here on The Flash are SUPER-excited to have Nicole join Team Flash for a one-off adventure as we put together our final season,” says showrunner Eric Wallace. “Nicole is a fantastically talented actress and I’m so happy she’s agreed to be part of a very special Season 9 episode where I get to cross off one of my 'Arrowverse Bucket List' team-ups: Having two fantastic reporters — Iris West-Allen (Candice Patton) and Nia Nal — investigate their own very bizarre and frightening mystery.”

Maines joined the cast of Supergirl back in 2018, making TV history as the first-ever trans superhero. Nia Nal was introduced as a young reporter working for Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist), before it came to light that she was actually an alien with pre-cog abilities.

At one point, The Flash was viewed as the crown jewel of the Arrowverse shows, but the perception among a lot of fans is that the series has been running on fumes for its past few seasons, so the news that this upcoming season would be the last didn't come as a huge surprise.

You can check out the most recent season 9 synopsis below.

"Season 9 picks up one week following Barry (Grant Gustin) and Team Flash's epic battle against the Reverse Flash (Tom Cavanagh) in the season 8 finale where they defeated him once and for all. Now, Barry and Iris (Candice Patton) are reconnecting and growing closer than ever before, but when a deadly group of Rogues descend on Central City led by a powerful new threat, The Flash and his team — Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker), Cecile Horton (Danielle Nicolet), Allegra Garcia (Kayla Compton), Chester P. Runk (Brandon McKnight), and Mark Blaine (Jon Cor) — work together to defeat the new threat only to discover a deadly new adversary rising to challenge Barry's heroic legacy. In their greatest battle yet, Barry and Team Flash will be pushed to their limits in order to save Central City one last time."

Possible Legion of Superheroes spin-off? Please CW? If that happens, make it like Stargirl and Superman and Lois. WITH AN ACTUAL BUDGET!

She was one the few things I enjoyed on that show. Glad she’s back.

You always gonna post the same repetitive remark about the show in every article from now about Flash's final Season? More subtlety and less bias please.

I always suspected for some reason that is whom Eric Wallace was hinting at back in S8. I held out hope for a final reunion with Melissa as Supergirl or even bring back Chris Wood as Mon-El since not much was used back in the Duet episode, besides Grant and him are old pals and to see them standing next in their suits would've been a treatment.

Wonder what is the bizarre mystery. Must be the blue crystal teased at the end of Season 8.

Can't wait for Nicole's return, ever since Supergirl wrapped up her character has faced a lot of exposure in DC Comics and got covered a lot. Even appeared next to Jon Kent in the Son of Superman comics.

@Lokiwasright - I wish I had given up on this shit show earlier . That was when my wife quit watching it. In the end I was just there for the crossovers. DirecTV stopped carrying the channel, so I didn't get to watch this past season thank God

Off topic...

John Williams let it slip (or was allowed to let it slip) during a concert in Milan, Italy yesterday that they have another ending to shoot for Indiana Jones 5.

"So we have just about completed the film. We have another ending to shoot and record in a couple of weeks."

So perhaps the displeasure of the fans about the rumored ending of Indy 5 where Indy dies and is replaced with Helena Brody is being addressed and they are changing the ending.

Who knows. Just heard that clip and I wanted to share.

Williams was performing in Italy yesterday as well

She’s such a babe omg
The powers and character itself don’t really do anything for the plot, but she’s always a welcome addition.

Huh interesting. I liked Nia enough, some of her stories weren't always good but enough were.

I've given up on these shows a while ago Supergirl became unbearable and Flash was just repetitive.

Nia was fine but up to the point I stopped watching it, her character was going nowhere
