ARROW Star Stephen Amell Will Return As Green Arrow For THE FLASH's Ninth And Final Season

Stephen Amell recently revealed what it would take for him to reprise the role of Green Arrow in the Arrowverse, and it will finally happen in The Flash's upcoming ninth and final season. Check it out!

It's easy to forget this now, but Grant Gustin made his first appearance as Barry Allen in season 2 of Arrow way back in 2013. That cameo role served as a backdoor pilot for what would eventually become The Flash, and the Scarlet Speedster would frequently team up with Stephen Amell's Green Arrow in the years that followed.

With that in mind, it makes all the sense in the world for the actor to make one final Arrowverse appearance in The Flash's upcoming ninth and finale season, right?

Following the news that Keiynan Lonsdale (Wally West/Kid Flash), David Ramsey (John Diggle/Spartan) and Sendhil Ramamurthy (Dr. Ramsey Rosso/Bloodwork) are all set to appear in season 9's ninth episode, it's now also been confirmed that Amell will return to guest star.

"As soon as our final season was announced, we knew we wanted Stephen to come back and reprise his iconic role as Oliver Queen," The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace said in a statement today. "After all, it was Oliver who originally launched Barry Allen on his heroic path."

"That’s why everyone on Team Flash felt so strongly that it was important to create a full-circle moment with Oliver’s return in the final season of The Flash."

Oliver Queen died twice during Crisis on Infinite Earths, though Amell has never shied away from expressing disappointment with how the hero's story ended. Now, he's getting a second chance in what Wallace describes as "an epic-yet-emotional episode we hope Arrowverse fans will enjoy."

"It’s all to say ‘thank you’ to everyone for watching and supporting our show throughout nine wonderful years. We absolutely cannot wait for everyone to see Grant and Stephen saving the world together again," he adds. "And yes, there will be thrills, chills and tears."

Could this be a flashback, some Multiversal madness, or a resurrection for Amell's Emerald Archer? That remains to be seen, but with Killer Frost actress Danielle Panabaker once again stepping behind the camera to direct, Green Arrow's return is definitely in good hands.

The Flash's final season, which is expected to serve as a farewell to the Arrowverse, will also feature Batwoman star Javicia Leslie as Red Death and Nicole Maines as Supergirl's Nia Nal/Dreamer.

Stay tuned for updates.

Good. I had my issues with Arrow, but always thought Amell was great in the role.

So they just go full CW and have Flash & Arrow throw down a big sloppy kiss with an a$$less chaps uber hiney grabfest.

Then Ezra Miller watching it on endless loop in the looney bin.

What a crossover!

Yeah seems obvious at this point. I’d imagine we’ll get news of Supergirl showing up to. One last hurrah

It might not have been perfect, but the Arrowverse was a better and more cohesive live-action DC universe than the DCEU could've ever been.

Welcome back Stephen!

Describing Oliver's return as "epic-yet-emotional", yesterday's news that Diggle's role in the episode will be an "emotional reunion" and that Wally will have "a special and heartfelt story" and finally that Bloodwork "will set into motion one of the Flash’s wildest and most emotional adventures yet" is really making me think that Ramsey will again try to psychologically torture Barry like in Season 6. And Wally as well.

So until 9x09 airs I am sticking with that. No flashbacks, no Multiverse doppelgänger madness (that's likely being saved for Red Death and Batwoman confrontation) nor will there be resurrection but it'll be a "The FINAL Temptation of Barry Allen" just like 6x07 was back in 2019.

Grant's gonna act the hell out again just like he did back then and so will the rest of the cast.

With that said if 9x09 is being this hyped, the best must yet to come in the remaining 4 episodes afterwards.

Amell and Guston had the kind of bromance that Batman and Superman should have.

The more characters announced to return, the more likely it'll be I'll watch it. Now I just want Supergirl and some of the Legends to show up

Amell tweeted the news as well.

Guest-stars confirmed so far all the way till 9x09.

This also might be obvious but pretty soon John Wesley Shipp will be in Vancouver to reprise being Jay Garrick. However I'm still holding out for any sighting of Max Mercury after S8 teased him.

And someone from Twitter bothered to make a textless version of the S9 poster.

Off-topic: Elizabeth Henstridge will be the director for the 10th episode of the freshman Season of Gotham Knights. Previously she directed the 7th episode of Season 2 of Superman & Lois last year.

@TheVandalore - Some shows take a bit before they hit their stride, all we got to judge is a pilot trailer.

@NinnesMBC - I miss her on Agents of SHIELD. I'm currently rewatching the show and I can't, for the life of me, understand why it was hated. It's incredible! Especially the Ghost Rider and Framework arcs

@NinnesMBC - I applaud you for keeping such an open mind.

I, for one, will likely never watch this show based on my extreme dislike for the premise and style.

@comicfan100 - She was one of my favourite characters in the show. It has been such a long time so even I'm struggling to think back on why it was hated. Probably because it took time to find it's footing in Season 1, it had the "case of the week" format (I'm not a hater of that though) until the 17th episode it was I believe where the Ward twist happens.

Afterwards it began reinventing itself to do different things in the new Seasons but the story arcs you mentioned in S4 really helped the show to stand out more. Their "pods" storylines that tied up with the entire and main story worked. (Similarly a lot to Flash S6 IMO)

And I also believe that it having a cast composed of basically many OCs and only a few canon from the comics like Daisy/Quake could've been the other petty reason why, fans wanted superpowers but only she had them and the rest were humans. All in all, Agents of SHIELD was a pretty great show that left it's mark as one of the first Marvel shows on a broadcast network.
