A brief teaser for the upcoming third season of Titans hinted that the show would be adapting the controversial "A Death in the Family" comic book arc, and this full trailer seemingly confirms that will indeed be the case - but with a few twists and turns along the way.
The promo shows Jason Todd (Curran Walters) making his way through what appears to be an abandoned amusement park before discovering a corpse with a twisted grin on its face. We then hear an unmistakable cackle, followed by a quick shot of someone beating Todd(?) with a crowbar. We are told that "Batman's ally was found dead," which leads to Bruce Wayne (Iain Glen) giving up the mantle of the Dark Knight and telling Dick (Brenton Thwaites) to "be a better Batman."
So, if Todd really is dead, who is the man under the Red Hood?
The trades have already confirmed that Jason is ultimately revealed as the villain, so this is most likely an attempt at misdirection, although it does raise a few interesting questions all the same. Check out the new trailer, which also introduces Jonathan Crane (Vincent Kartheiser) and Barbara Gordon (Savannah Welch), below and let us know what you think.
Kartheiser and Welch join returning cast members Brenton Thwaites as Dick Grayson, Anna Diop as Kory Anders, Teagan Croft as Rachel Roth, Ryan Potter as Garfield Logan, Curran Walters as Jason Todd, Conor Leslie as Donna Troy, Minka Kelly as Dawn Granger, Alan Ritchson as Hank Hall, Joshua Orpin as Superboy, Chelsea Zhang as Rose Wilson, Chella Man as Jericho, Drew Van Acker as Aqualad, Esai Morales as Deathstroke, Jay Lycurgo as Tim Drake and Iain Glen as Bruce Wayne.
The first three episode of Titans season 3 will air on the HBO Max streaming service on August 12. Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, and Greg Berlanti will once again serve as executive producers along with Greg Walker and Sarah Schechter.
