Adi Shankar To Direct WATCHMEN-Inspired Superhero Drama GODS AND SECRETS For HBO

Adi Shankar was behind those terrific 'Bootleg' one-shot films, Power/Rangers and The Punisher: Dirty Laundry. He'll return to the murky world of superheroes next with Gods And Secrets.

Adi Shankar, the producer behind the 'Bootleg Universe' one-shot films Power/Rangers & The Punisher: Dirty Laundry and 2012's Dredd will make his directorial debut with HBO's Gods And Secrets. According to Deadline, Shankar will team up with Stewart Yost to co-direct this dark superhero drama that's said to be inspired by Alan Moore's seminal graphic novel, Watchmen. The drama will feature an original team named 'Guardians Of Justice', and explore the more secretive and shady aspects of celebrity culture by applying it to superheroes.

The series is set to star WWE's Diamond Dallas Page, Jackson Rathbone (The T
wilight Saga), Kellan Lutz (The Legend Of Hercules), Sharni Vinson (You're Next) and Andy Milonakis. The core premise appears intruiging, while the project's placement on HBO should be enough to pique most people's interest. The cast is admittedly rather uninspiring, but Shankar has impressed in the past with his Bootleg one-shots. Does he have your attention here? Sound off with your thoughts below!

My interest is piqued. It's got to be better than season 2 of True Detective.

The cast is a bit of a mind[frick].

Sharni Vinson was badass in YOU'RE NEXT, Kellan Lutz is cardboard with abs, DDP is awesome, and Andy Milonakis is hilarious.

I'm down. Loved both Dirty Laundry AND the Power/Rangers short, as well as his Dredd animated stuff. Plust this will be on HBO so, yeah I'm in. A Darker version of Powers sounds good to me. I'm actually surprised no one has turned Astro City into a show. It's perfect for that medium.

yassss I love this guy's work, and an HBO superhero show sounds super cool. Warners should have tried to have them use one of their actual books though.

The bootleg universe is on point, as is Dredd. HBO is probably my favorite channel so this could be great. I'm in.

Its HBO so it cant be too bad. And Shankar has done some very cool bootleg shorts. I like his little universe. Im happy for a guy who's risen from short films on youtube to HBO.

Was wondering when Sharni Vinson was going to get some higher profile work.
She was insane in You're Next, absolutely incredible with the action scenes. She was born to be in a CBM!

If he had a hand in Dredd, he can have my hand in his pants. I'm on board.

At least it has a better cast of talented actors than anything DC has crapped out so far.

Hopefully this is a sign that HBO will start making more comic book shows. I'd enjoy seeing a Fables and Sandman show. It also would be great if HBO was another way to show off more characters from the DCEU. Netflix is being used to show the darker side of Marvel and hopefully HBO will do the same for DC.
