GAME OF THRONES Spoiled A Massive HOUSE OF THE DRAGON Plot Point Back In Season 3

If you've read George R.R. Martin's Fire and Blood, this won't be news to you, but everyone else should be wary of a major Spoiler relating to a certain character on House of the Dragon...

House of the Dragon is based on George R.R. Martin's Fire and Blood, so if you've read it, you should have a pretty good idea of what's coming. But even if you decided to skip the book, the fate of a principal character was already revealed back in season 3 of Game of Thrones!

Major spoilers follow.

The history of the Targaryen dynasty and the civil war known as the Dance of Dragons is discussed several times over the course of the HBO fantasy series, but mostly in pretty vague terms. However, none other than King Joffrey explains in grim detail what became of Rhaenyra Targaryen during season 3, episode 4.

While attempting to impress his bethroed, Margaery Tyrell, the monstrous boy king reveals that "Rhaenyra Targaryen was murdered by her brother, or rather his dragon. It ate her while her son watched. What's left of her is buried in the crypts right down there."

Unfortunately, the little shit spoke the truth. Rhaenyra is captured by her half-brother Aegon (who we meet as an infant in this week's episode) and fed to his dragon, Sunfye, while her own son (also named Aegon, somewhat confusingly) watches on helplessly.

We have a long way to go before this happens on the show (assuming it even reaches that point), and there is always a chance the series will deviate from the book - although we can't see them changing something this major, as it could turn out to be House of the Dragon's "Red Wedding" moment.

Did you guys remember this exchange from season 3 of Game of Thrones? How do you feel about Rhaenyra (potentially) coming to such a disturbing end in a later season of House of the Dragon? Drop us a comment down below.

I don't remember it from Game of Thrones at all, but I do know from the Fire & Blood book how it's all gonna end. And I do hope it reaches that point, because some wild shit is gonna go down

@bkmeijer1 - being that I'm coming to care for these characters, I'm terrified for their fates

@Vigor - even if I didn't know what happened in the book, I'd still know not to care too much. It's a Game of Thrones after all.

@bkmeijer1 - Keep in mind Fire & Blood is a history book written over a hundred years after those events using second hand accounts passed down through the years, so it's not entirely accurate.

I imagine that several things in the book have been embellished or are outright fabrications from who was left standing. I think the show will play out a little different.

@tazmaniak - I think it will change some events and characters and such as well (just like GoT did), because it is an adaptation after all.

However, I do expect the major deaths and betrayals to happen in the similar, if not the same ways. Especially the Dance of the Dragons itself.

It's no secret what's going to happen. That's the issue with prequels. We don't know the in-between details and how exactly we get there. That's the fun part. It's why, and only if GRRM is involved, I'm cool with a Jon Show sequel show. At least it's going in totally fresh and it's something where everyone would be on this new ride, with nothing from the books making expectations for us. It would be a fresh experience for everyone.

They had better not chnage things. The books lay down a clear and compelling story. The biggest missteps in Game of Thrones were when they deviated from the books. There were some nice smaller changes made (like Arya being Tywin’s cup bearer instead of Roose Bolton’s) but do not change major story elements like this.

Is this really a surprise though? Moreso seeing it I guess but it didn't spoil anything.

Never read any of the books. The shows suit me just fine. And Joffrey was a Liar anyways. Just because he said it, doesn't mean it happened.
