Agatha, or Agatha: Darkhold Diaries as it's currently known, is expected to premiere on Disney+ this fall. The show recently completed five days of planned reshoots in just one, a strong indication that it's not as troubled as other recent MCU TV shows.
With WandaVision's Jac Schaeffer calling the shots as Head Writer, the Kathryn Hahn-led spin-off is arguably in safe hands. Now, Heartstopper breakout Joe Locke has talked more about his still-mysterious role in the series, revealing he landed the part after flying to Los Angeles for a chemistry read with Hahn.
"Me and Kathryn were wearing matching Vans," he tells Variety, "and I remember [executive producer and head writer] Jac Schaeffer taking a picture of our matching Vans, and then that was the point I was like, 'Okay, maybe this is going well.'"
That read was also a scene in Agatha itself and remains the actor's favourite. He didn't give much away but did confirm it revolves around an argument between Agatha Harkness and his character (rumoured to be Wanda Maximoff's now-teen son, Billy).
"It worked for the scene," he said of surprising Hahn by unexpectedly screaming at his co-star in a take which has made the final cut. "It was amazing, and I just remember that feeling like, 'Wow, this is the coolest. I’m working with this most amazing actress.' It was great. I really think it’s going to be a very, very, very good show and I’m very excited for it to come out."
Very few official plot details have been revealed for Agatha, though we expect it to potentially receive a new subtitle from episode to episode and largely revolve around Agatha tracking down Billy Maximoff (or vice versa) who, like his comic book counterpart, has been "reincarnated" as Billy Kaplan. Mephisto is also expected to appear, possibly played by Sacha Baron Cohen.
Various scoopers have claimed the story will also feature the descendants of Evanora Harkness' coven - now known as the Salem Seven - coming back to claim their revenge on the woman who killed their mothers.
The show will feature the return of many familiar faces from WandaVision, including Emma Caulfield Ford (Sarah Proctor), Debra Jo Rupp (Sharon Davis), David Payton (John Collins), David Lengel (Harold Proctor), Asif Ali (Abilash Tandon), Amos Glick (Dennis), Brian Brightman (Sheriff Miller), and Kate Forbes (Evanora Harkness).
Kathryn Hahn will lead the cast, of course, while other noteworthy additions include Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke, Patti LuPone, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Okwui Okpokwasili, and Maria Dizzia.
Agatha: Darkhold Diaries is set to premiere on Disney+ later this year.
