Agatha, or Agatha: Darkhold Diaries as it's currently known, is expected to premiere on Disney+ this fall. The show recently completed five days of planned reshoots in just one, a strong indication that it's not as troubled as other recent MCU TV shows.

With WandaVision's Jac Schaeffer calling the shots as Head Writer, the Kathryn Hahn-led spin-off is arguably in safe hands. Now, Heartstopper breakout Joe Locke has talked more about his still-mysterious role in the series, revealing he landed the part after flying to Los Angeles for a chemistry read with Hahn.

"Me and Kathryn were wearing matching Vans," he tells Variety, "and I remember [executive producer and head writer] Jac Schaeffer taking a picture of our matching Vans, and then that was the point I was like, 'Okay, maybe this is going well.'"

That read was also a scene in Agatha itself and remains the actor's favourite. He didn't give much away but did confirm it revolves around an argument between Agatha Harkness and his character (rumoured to be Wanda Maximoff's now-teen son, Billy).

"It worked for the scene," he said of surprising Hahn by unexpectedly screaming at his co-star in a take which has made the final cut. "It was amazing, and I just remember that feeling like, 'Wow, this is the coolest. I’m working with this most amazing actress.' It was great. I really think it’s going to be a very, very, very good show and I’m very excited for it to come out."

Very few official plot details have been revealed for Agatha, though we expect it to potentially receive a new subtitle from episode to episode and largely revolve around Agatha tracking down Billy Maximoff (or vice versa) who, like his comic book counterpart, has been "reincarnated" as Billy Kaplan. Mephisto is also expected to appear, possibly played by Sacha Baron Cohen.

Various scoopers have claimed the story will also feature the descendants of Evanora Harkness' coven - now known as the Salem Seven - coming back to claim their revenge on the woman who killed their mothers.

The show will feature the return of many familiar faces from WandaVision, including Emma Caulfield Ford (Sarah Proctor), Debra Jo Rupp (Sharon Davis), David Payton (John Collins), David Lengel (Harold Proctor), Asif Ali (Abilash Tandon), Amos Glick (Dennis), Brian Brightman (Sheriff Miller), and Kate Forbes (Evanora Harkness).

Kathryn Hahn will lead the cast, of course, while other noteworthy additions include Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke, Patti LuPone, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Okwui Okpokwasili, and Maria Dizzia.

Agatha: Darkhold Diaries is set to premiere on Disney+ later this year.

Low expectations.

Aubrey Plaza probably wasted. GREAT MC villain Mephisto in a throw away role played by that a$$hat idiot borat guy.

And WTH does matching vans mean? Is that some goofy british thing?

@DocSpock - They are American actualy from CA, type of shoe, basicaly a brand name for a range of pumps originally designed as deck shoes for sailors, Vans gained popularity in the surf and later skate communities.

@DocSpock - look, I don't like it but sache is a great talent.

Keep in mind he became famous for playing borat while interacting with normal people in the real world to make up much of the comedy. He then did it again for two more films despite people knowing who he is from borat with only a change in costume and make up.

Really think of the acting talent required for that.

@Origame -

I don’t agree, but I respect your opinion.

I think most of the crowd that like borat/cohen
Are the same ones who like JackA$$, Bad Grandpa, gay British comedy, & things like that.
I am glad they enjoy that stuff, but I don’t.

@DocSpock - I mean, I'm talking purely from an acting standpoint (especially since the humor of borat probably isn't gonna be translated).

Again, think about it. Borat was and still is super popular. People know it. The actor's face became highly recognizable. So for follow up movies to work without every meeting with people just quickly turning into them realizing they're being played for a movie, he has to convince them he's genuinely a different person, despite very little changes to his appearance. Which he managed to do that right afterwards for Bruno and as recently as the pandemic for borat 2. That's objectively great acting.

@DocSpock - I get not liking stuff like Borat but Cohen is actualy a damn good actor too when given good material to work with. Check him out in 'The Spy' playing the real life Egyptian-born Israeli spy Eli Cohen. As I say his intentionaly OTT characters used for politicaly charged comedy, especialy the setting traps for politicians etc to fall into is always going to be divisive and actualy intended to be but...

...if he can pull of Mephisto and how well crafted the role will be remains to be seen but do think he has the skillset to pull it off if the scripts and stories are well written.

@Apophis71 -

I don't agree with you at all. I think he is a mediocre actor who appeals to a niche base.

I respect your difference in opinion though.

Cheers!

@DocSpock - I felt the same way about him for a LONG time when I only knew him for characters like Ali G so entirely get your POV if not seen him do anything other than stuff like that or not convinced by his more serious acting roles if you have.

Cool , I wish him well in the role (I haven’t seen Heartstopper so this will likely be my first exposure to him)!!.

I enjoyed Agatha in WV but I don’t really have any particular interest in this spin-off as of now…

Granted that could change , I thought Loki was unneeded and it’s ended up being one of my favorite MCU projects post EG so you never know.

I’m definitely gonna give it a shot though and hope it’s good!!.

Honestly,I feel Iger should pull a Zaslav and just pull the plug on this. I'm not denying the talent involved in this show but this show is just a major waste of time and money especially for a one-off.

Besides, Daredevil: Born Again, this is my most anticipated Disney+ show. I know there are a lot of folks who could care less but I have faith in Jac Shaeffer. WandaVision is still my favorite series on Disney+ and I hope this lives up to expectations following that show. But the world is different now since WandaVision, there are a lot of people just hoping it fails due to it being female-centric and the whole Marvel Studios is woke crowd. But I think it's important the Scarlet Witch. Marvel Studios' most popular female character has her narrative moving forward in the MCU even though it's through ancillary characters in Agatha.

I'm just not looking forward for all the homophobes and misogynists who will be coming out of the woodwork to diss on the show due to it being majorly female and having a gay male lead.

Facts:

Sascha Baron Cohen is a talented actor.

Wasn't this show called Agatha All Along now?

This series will bomb, same as Wonder Man.

Deadpool & Wolverine will be the only $1 billion comic book movie in 2024 and very probably the most successful movie of the year.
After having the most viewed trailer of all time and getting a second trailer next week/in time for the Oscars/Akademie Awards it is guaranteed to make more than the first two movies, which made $800+ million.

I don't think it will make as much as Barbie or Super Mario Bros ($1.4 billion), because no kids, but it will still be a tremendous success.

No 2025 comic book movie will come near it, not Cap 4, not Superman: Legacy, not The Fantastic 4, not The Batman part II.
