Fans were convinced that Mephisto was going to be behind the mysterious goings-on in WandaVision right up until the finale, but the demonic villain was nowhere to be seen.
Now, it's looking more and more likely that the character is going to be seen everywhere over the next few years!
Though his casting still hasn't been officially announced, Sacha Baron Cohen (Sweeney Todd, Borat) is expected to make his MCU debut as Mephisto in Agatha: Coven of Chaos, and it seems Marvel Studios may have seized the opportunity to film a Special Presentation featuring the villain during production.
According to Above the Line's Jeff Sneider on the latest episode of John Rocha's The Hot Mic, the project may already be shooting.
"They told me there's a Mephisto special filming on the set of Agatha: House of Harkness," Sneider said during the podcast. "It sounds like they may be doing his very own special."
If this is accurate, you can probably expect the trades to weigh in soon. Mephisto is also said to be the main baddie of the upcoming Ironheart series.
Coven of Chaos will also star Kathryn Hahn in the title role, along with Maria Dizzia, Sasheer Zamata, and Emma Caulfield Ford, reprising her WandaVision role as Dottie. Aubrey Plaza is on board as the villain of the piece, and according to a recent rumor, the Legion alum will be playing Morgan Le Fay.
The show will focus on powerful witch Agatha Harkness, who almost managed to defeat the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) in the season finale of WandaVision before being bested and trapped in Westview in her "nosy neighbour Agnes" persona. Though Olsen is not expected to appear, there's speculation that Wanda might have something to do with Harkness' release and/or reformation following the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Jac Schaeffer, who is under a joint overall deal with Marvel and 20th Television, will serve as writer and executive producer and will also helm multiple episodes along with Gandja Monteiro (Wednesday; The Chi) and Rachel Goldberg (Cloak & Dagger; Mayans M.C.)
