Shea Whigham Lands Male Lead In Marvel's AGENT CARTER

We have one Boardwalk Empire actor hoping to break into the Marvel Universe, and another who now has...albeit on tv. According to Deadline, Whingham will play SSR Chief Roger Dooley in the Captain America: The First Avenger spin-off show.

As HBO's Boardwalk Empire's final season is underway, one of the principal stars of the series has lined up his next gig, and it's a doozy. Deadline report that Shea Whigham (who plays Eli Thompson in the show) has signed on to star as the male lead in Marvel's Agent Carter. According to them he'll play the "tough but fair-minded SSR Chief Roger Dooley, the man who will oversee Agents Carter (Atwell), Thompson (Chad Michael Murray) and Sousa (Enver Gjokaj)." Dooley was a S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent in the Marvel Comics, but took on a villainous role. Fans of another excellent HBO's series, True Detective, may recognize Whigham as the haunted, chain smoking preacher who's questioned by Matthew McConaughey's character on a couple of occasions. He also had a small role in American Hustle.

I wonder if it'll be a romantic interest.

Obviously you can't have Carter waiting 70 years for Steve to come back. But it's gotta kinda break your heart to see her with anybody else.

Great actor though. His addition has me significantly more interested in the show.

"Dooley forced her to submit to rigorous examination, chained up in the nude, and video-taped it for his later viewing pleasure. When the She-Hulk broke out of her cell, he left his quarters to join the search, and was ambushed and possessed by the Cockroaches."

Ok I don't think it will be anything like in the comics

Actually I guess Chad Michael Murray is the more likely love interest, but still I stand by my point.

So we now have two Boardwalk Empire actors in the MCU and a 3rd who wants to be. Did they get tired of casting Doctor Who actors?

I hope this show is good, Agents Of Shield just did not do it for me. This show seems hopeful and i'm really liking all the casting so far.

Why can't everything be a 12 episode cable style show or an 8 episode miniseries? Or even a 3 part mini-series. You get waaay more character development and with the budgets these days they do epic stuff.

I mean come on:

A 3 part Black Widow mini-series: Widow travels eastern Europe hunting down the last of the men behind The Red Room.

An 8 part Hawkeye miniseries based on Matt Fraction's Hawkguy. Hawkeye spends his downtime fighting tracksuit draculas.

10 episode event series of The Runaways. 6 part Punisher mini series.

I really really hope Agent Carter does well because the shorter format is budget friendly, grabs great talent in front and behind the camera. And makes for great story telling. Marvel is diving into Netflix head first and I am sure they will continue to take risks such as this show. Calculated but with the fans in mind.

Almost 35 weeks with only a few weeks off and then in May we get Daredevil, Avengers Age of Ultron and AntMan in June. We will probably get AoS season 3, a second Carter mini and Jessica Jones in the fall/winter.

@homodrome- It's kind of what their going for with Agents of SHIELD too this year. 12-episode Fall season 2A, 10-episode in the Spring season 2B. And between them, 8-episode Agent Carter season 1. Then 12 episodes of Daredevil all at once probably right before Age of Ultron hits theaters.

I hope I don't have to watch whatever this scene is with Agent Dooley adapted in Agent Carter.
