After a year-long wait, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is finally back with its seventh and final season, which got off to quite the start as the team found themselves in 1931 and tasked with the ultimate mission: stop HYDRA before they erase S.H.I.E.L.D. from the entire timeline by saving HYDRA.

So, yeah, it's going to be a wild final ride.

Next week's episode continues their '30s escapades as each member of the team begins to question their own values, which leaves Deke (Jeff Ward) with one helluva decision to make.

The final season consists of 13 episodes, with its series finale tentatively scheduled for August 26, barring any unforeseen schedule changes.

I laughed at Coulson's New Deal joke. Then I felt bad because the joke itself wasn't supposed to be funny, but the awkwardness of it was. Finally I felt old because I'm obviously not the target demographic.

Major props to hair, makeup, costume, and set design.

I enjoyed it! I hope we get more familiar faces over this final run... Patton Oswalt was great to see again. In addition to the Agent Carter stuff, I figure that we have to see Ward, don’t we? Maybe a visit to the first season?

Some comments from the showrunners in an interview at Deadline:

“BELL: The other thing I want to say that because this was our last season and because there was an underlying nostalgia, we really went for it with stories. I mean, we took chances. There’s a lot of fun things that we would’ve never attempted earlier in the show and I’m really curious to see how fans respond to some of those bolder choices.

TANCHAROEN: There are some bold choices, that’s for sure.”

“WHEDON: I would say our focus was definitely our own history. Playing with history is fun. That’s part of the fun of going back in time. But part of the philosophy of this season was we had a Season 5 that we thought was the end and we really focused on our characters and their feelings, and we felt like they got sort of an emotional closure.

Now, here we are doing that again.

So our focus this time was more about what do we really want to see before this is over? What can we give the fans that feels rewarding and rewards them for spending all this time with us? For spending all these years and paying attention to all the details, so reliving our own history became part of it in a fun way, and we think that that will be rewarding for the characters, and also the audience.“

“ DEADLINE: Meaning Marvel and something you do have a big say in, are we going to bump into more of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in this final season, as you have in past years?

WHEDON: We’re going to bump into something.

LOEB: (LAUGHS) Yeah, we’ll bump into something.

BELL: Something will definitely happen.”

This show is the beating heart of the MCU for me. I'm glad it's lasted this long, and I'm so sorry to see it leave. This is a bittersweet occasion, and a good start to this next "pod". (Like @TheDoctor1225 said, it feels like it's a continuation of last season rather than the start of its own.)

It's too bad they can only fit in so much--this would've been a great opportunity to introduce some of Marvel's oldest characters that weren't A-list, like the Tom Holloway Angel.

@Beartastic25 - daisy and Simmons spent a year looking for fitz out in space. While doing so, they are being chased by what they believe to be the confederacy. They finally find fitz and we learn that it's what's left of the chronocoms that are chasing them. They want to know how they altered time do that they can save their planet that has been destroyed. On earth, a person that looks like coulson has appeared and started killing people. Turns out these people have these bats in them called shrikes that take over the host body. Turns out fake coupon has spent the last 100 years hunt their creator, who ends up bringing fitz and Simmons back to earth. Fake coulson ends being a ghost rider like entity that got shoved into a body created by the energy that the monoliths left behind when they got destroyed.

As for the finale

I'm sure I'm missing some important stuff my lunch is ending

Solid premier, took me a second or two for some of the references because of the time between seasons. I love Coulson as an LMD, he obviously has a death wish and it will be interesting to see if they play with that as the season continues.

Pretty good premiere.
I love time travel stories and i find that it's funny that they chose to go the DOFP route instead of the Endgame one...heh.
Daisy was HOT af!

Coulson as an LMD, we already knew that, but it will be interesting.
