ARMOR WARS Is Now Being Developed As A Movie; Don Cheadle Still On Board As Rhodey

There's been a big shakeup with Marvel Studios' plans for Armor Wars, as the one-time Disney+ series is now being developed as a feature. Find out more after the jump...

There's been a big change in Marvel Studios' plans for the upcoming Armor Wars project. Originally developed as a Disney+ series, the property is now being retooled as a feature.

According to THR, the reason for the shakeup came down to the studio being committed to getting the story told the right way "and in that process realized that a feature was better suited for the project." This reportedly pushes Armor Wars further down the development slate, so we probably won't be getting any more updates for a while.

Despite recent rumors to the contrary, Don Cheadle is still on board to reprise the role of James “Rhodey” Rhodes, AKA War Machine, while head writer Yassir Lester is also staying put and will now begin work on a feature script.

The studio is said to have been eyeing a 2023 production start for the series, but those who had been prepping for the shoot were only notified of the change today. No directors were attached (that we know of).

Plot details are still very much a mystery, but the story is expected to pick up after the events of Secret Invasion, with Rhodey set to make an appearance in the upcoming Disney+ show. If Armor Wars takes inspiration from David Michelinie and Bob Layton's comic run, it will likely focus on Tony Stark's advanced Iron Man tech falling into the wrong hands.

We don't know who those hands will belong too, but fans are hoping to see the return of Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer.

What do you guys make of this news? Do you think Armor Wars will work better as a movie? Drop us a comment down below.
