Sony Pictures and Marvel are currently in the midst of either planning, production, or post-production for a whole slew of films scheduled to release between now and 2025 (check out this post from IGN for the full list and dates.
These films include: Kraven The Hunter, Venom 3, Madame Web, Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse, El Muerto, and so many more following these releases for later dates.
El Muerto is Sony's next big priority to begin production, as an official production date was scheduled for August 7th of this year. However, El Muerto himself, Bad Bunny, has reportedly exited the project:
This surely came as a shock, with Bad Bunny being the initial reason Sony planned on developing this film in the first place, because of how impressed they had been with his performance in Bullet Train, and quickly began work on making a future project based on a Latin character.
Despite Bad Bunny's departure from the film, Sony does not intend on cancelling the film altogether, as their next course of action following this news is casting a new lead for the role of El Muerto.
At the very least, this halt will most likely delay the start of production, which had, again, recently been made official to commence in August, which could affect whenever they planned on releasing the film.
About El Muerto:
A wrestler gains super power through a mystical mask who originally fought Spider-Man in a charity wrestling match in which he nearly unmasked the webslinger before being stung by Spider-Man with a paralyzing poison.
