Netflix's Iron Fist proved largely disappointing for fans, though the character was somewhat redeemed with his appearances in Luke Cage and The Defenders.
While the majority weren't too upset when the plug was pulled on the series after two seasons, it still felt like lead star Finn Jones never really got to show what he was capable of as Danny Rand. After all, the series, which ran for 26 episodes, never even gave him a costume in the present day.
Now, Jones is getting another chance in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, where he'll reunite with his fellow Defenders, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter). Will he suit up? It's too soon to say.
In an interview with IGN at New York Comic Con, Jones opened up about his surprise MCU return and how the character has changed since we last saw him in action.
"It's wild to not play a character for 10 years and then come back after all that time. For an actor, it's a wonderful gift," the Game of Thrones star enthused. "I think personally people grow a lot in 10 years, and as an actor you grow a lot, and characters grow a lot as well."
Jones continued, "So to come back with all of that kind of story and to bring that forward into this, what I see is it's kind of like a new version of Danny Rand or a more evolved, grown-up version, is really fun. So fun."
While he couldn't give anything away about Iron Fist's role in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3, the actor admitted that he's given serious thought to what Danny has been up to since we last saw him in 2017.
"I think he's been around the world in various different secret orders, probably a lot of time down in ancient ruins in South America and in Asia, really honing his craft," Jones shared. "I think he's gone through a lot of grief and a lot of joy, and I think that's really forged the Danny that we see show up in Daredevil Season 3."
"That's all my own backstory. That's just like where I believe the character has been and then what we see in the show is I think a culmination of that," he added, confirming that he'll share the screen with Colter, Ritter, and Daredevil actor Charlie Cox.
Explaining that this Danny is "very, very grounded" with "a different quality to him, which is just a joy to play," Jones concluded, "The way that they've written Danny this year is – I'm just so grateful. I'm just so grateful [for] the level of attention that's been put into the character. And I remember getting the scripts and I was just like, 'I got no notes.' I'm just ready to show up and give my all."
Ritter has also been discussing her MCU future and whether Jessica could continue making her presence felt in the MCU after Daredevil: Born Again. You can hear from the actress in the players below.
