After Hawkeye's first two episodes, fans are now convinced that Vincent D'Onofrio is set to make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. the Kingpin of Crime. It would certainly make sense following Echo's introduction, but there was another big cameo director Rhys Thomas (who helms the first, second, and finale episodes) hoped to include.
Talking to The Playlist, the filmmaker shared his interest in putting Scott Lang/Ant-Man in the show.
"I don’t want to reveal anything because we do kinda get to introduce [some characters]," Thomas teased, possibly referring to Kingpin or someone else we already know about like Maya Lopez. "Here’s one: Ant-Man. Paul [Rudd] and Jeremy’s dynamic together I enjoy. I enjoyed their press tour dynamic when they were on the ‘Avengers’ run."
"So [Ant-Man] was a character that felt like a fun way to play at the absurdity of Clint’s situation," he continued, "but I did get to have a little nod to that."
Thomas is likely referring to Ant-Man's hilarious appearance in Rogers The Musical or that impersonator in Times Square, but it is a shame the real deal wasn't able to make a cameo in the Disney+ series before Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. Marvel Studios probably had a reason for that, though, and if we are going to see Kingpin...well, why overshadow D'Onofrio with Paul Rudd?
In our review, we said: "Marvel Studios is once again sleigh-in' it with Hawkeye, an unmissable Christmastime team-up bringing holiday cheer to the MCU with top tier storytelling delivered in the Mighty Marvel Manner and a bold, brilliant new hero in Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop."
What cameos are you hoping for in Hawkeye over the next four weeks?
