Last year, a rumor did the rounds that one of the directors behind FX/Hulu's excellent Reservation Dogs, Sydney Freeland, had been enlisted to helm Disney+'s upcoming Hawkeye spinoff, Echo. Now, Freeland herself appears to have confirmed her involvement.
The filmmaker took to Instagram to share a casting call for an upcoming Disney+ project, which is searching for background actors with a focus on Native American, First Nations and Indigenous Peoples. The title isn't mentioned, but Echo is obviously the most likely possibility.
The post also confirms that the series is scheduled begin production next month in and around Peachtree City, Georgia.
Of course, this doesn't mean Freeland has definitely signed on to helm an episode/episodes of the show, but it seems like a pretty safe bet.
Alaqua Cox debuted as Maya Lopez, aka Echo, in Hawkeye, and is set to return to lead her own series. When we last saw the conflicted antihero she was putting a bullet in The Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio) after coming to the realization that he was the one responsible for her father's death. Wilson Fisk almost certainly survived, however, and will likely return as the main antagonist of Echo.
Graham Greene (Wind River, Dances With Wolves) reportedly joined the cast in an undisclosed role.
