Alden Ehrenreich is leaving the Galaxy Far, Far Away behind for the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
Deadline reports that the Solo: A Star Wars Story lead has booked a part in the upcoming Ironheart Disney+ series. As is usually the case, no details on his character were provided, although he is said to be playing a "key role."
Ehrenreich will star alongside Dominique Thorne as the teen hero of the title, Riri Williams.
The Han Solo star is not expected to reprise his iconic Star Wars role, but stranger things have been known to happen. He recently wrapped production on Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, and will next be seen in Elizabeth Banks' bonkers-sounding Cocaine Bear.
Manny Montana (Mayans M.C.) recently signed on for a series regular role in Ironheart (again, no other details were disclosed). In The Heights actor Anthony Ramos will also appear, and while his part also remains under wraps, it's said to be "similar to how Jonathan Majors was introduced as Kang To Conqueror in Loki. He is expected to not only have a big part in this series but in future Marvel projects as well."
The son of Iron Man baddie Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges) and The Hood are also rumored to make their live-action debuts during the show. That's yet to be confirmed, but if accurate, there's a chance Montana and Ramos could fill either or both roles.
Sam Bailey (Brown Girls) and Angely Barnes (Mythic Quest) were recently announced as directors, and have reportedly been enlisted to helm at least one episode a piece. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler will executive produce via his Proximity production company.
We still don't know a whole lot about Ironheart, but the series is expected to stick pretty closely to Riri's comic book origin as "the creator of the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man." There's also been some speculation that the character could be ret-conned as a Wakandan since she'll also appear in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
