With it looking like Henry Cavill was done with Superman, rumours have persisted for months that he might be heading to the MCU. Captain Britain is a role we've heard mentioned a few times, though most rumours pointed to the British actor suiting up as Hyperion in the upcoming second season of Loki.
It was a cool thought, particularly with claims that the Squadron Supreme (or Squadron Sinister) will be a key part of Kang the Conqueror's army in The Multiverse Saga.
Earlier this week, Cavill confirmed he is officially returning as the DCU's Superman, and dismissed those claims during a recent interview with reporter Josh Horowitz. "As far as I know, I am not going to be in Loki," the actor confirmed. "It would be a tricky one to handle at this stage...if James Gunn can do it, maybe I can too."
Now, we can't help but think that Cavill is playing deliberately coy here, and it's not as if he'd choose this Q&A to announce what we're assuming is meant to be a surprise cameo! Actors do jump between both worlds; Idris Elba played Heimdall in Thor: Love and Thunder and The Suicide Squad's Bloodsport in the space of a year, remember.
In this instance, though, we do believe what the Man of Steel star is saying.
On the page, Hyperion was Marvel's play on Superman, and has a lot of interesting ties to the Multiverse that could see him and the rest of the Squadron Supreme become key to future MCU stories. There's currently no indication the team is actually set to appear in Loki, so it's best not to get too excited in case we're facing another Mephisto situation here.
As for Cavill, he seemingly has a bright future in the DCU as Superman, and will likely play the Man of Tomorrow in a long overdue solo movie in the not-too-distant future.
Loki season 2 is expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime in mid-2023.
