LOKI Star Wunmi Mosaku Talks Reuniting With Tom Hiddleston & Joining The Marvel Studios Family (Exclusive)

Having appeared in Batman v Superman and Fantastic Beasts, actress Wunmi Mosaku is no stranger to blockbuster filmmaking, but this time she finds herself working for the biggest studio of them all...

For actress Wunmi Mosaku, who plays original character Hunter B-15, Loki isn't exactly her first trip into blockbuster territory as she previously appeared in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Nor is it her first trek into deep sci-fi storytelling, as she also starred in an episode of Black Mirror. This show is a whole new beast, though, as she now finds herself working for Marvel Studios.

However, thanks to leading man Tom Hiddleston (Avengers: Endgame; Thor: Ragnarok) and co-star Gugu Mbatha-Raw (The Morning Show; Belle), both of whom she's known for the better part of the last two decades since they were all at drama school together, she found the experience to be a whole lot more comfortable than she was anticipating.

With most of her early scenes taking place opposite Hiddleston, Mosaku expressed gratitude that he was there to help bring her into the Marvel family. "It was great, very easy because there’s a short-hand already because we know and trust each other and you can be a little more vulnerable with each other and say ‘I’m scared," when I was scared or nervous about certain scenes, nervous about stunts, and I really felt like I had a friend who I could call on to help me. That was really, really great."

While she understandably has a contentious relationship with the God of Mischief, a lot of her early scenes actually take place opposite veteran actor and comedic legend Owen Wilson (Wedding CrashersZoolander), a fellow MCU newcomer who she found to be an absolute joy to work with and ended up learning a lot from.

"He’s so easy, he’s so easy in front of the camera. He’s just got this real natural quality to everything that he does and he’s also not afraid to improvise and play around and make it better. So, yeah, again a real joy to work with. He and I work a lot together in the show because we’re the TVA and I really just had a ball. I had a ball getting to know him, I had a ball watching him work and yeah, I felt like I learned a lot."

As for how working with Marvel Studios differs from her experience on the aforementioned DC title and the Harry Potter spinoff, she tells us:

"I mean I feel like joining Marvel sounds very intimidating because it’s Marvel and they have such a huge fanbase and they make great films and I really wanted to be apart of the MCU from the moment I saw Black Panther and so, it was kind of scary, but then, Marvel, MCU, off-camera, everyone is so lovely and it’s so normal, and it doesn’t feel intimidating. It feels like a family, friendly and easy, so yeah, I honestly was scared, but as soon as I walked in, I knew I didn’t have anything to be scared of. Not from those guys anyway. *laughs*

Also, it’s a different role, no one’s ever played B-15 because B-15 is a new character so there’s a little less pressure as well because there’s no expectation."

Her presence in the first episode was fantastic and I can't wait to see more of her.

Her and Loki seem to be slowly developing a little rivalry haha.

A general question about the first episode:
If the removal of an infinity stone causes such havoc according to the Ancient One, what does a whole drawer full of them removed mean? And does the TVA care, or is the Ancient One wrong?

@JonC - I assume the Ancient One is correct for their reality and the TVA operates outside of it

@ModHaterSLADE - Yeah, I was a little surprised there was no mention of her excellent role in that sci-fi/fantasy/horror series.

The costume she wears does her no favors. She is nowhere near as fat as that thing makes her look.

She was absolutely terrible in the first episode. Some of y'all need to go back and rewatch it, because her line readings were incredibly flat and lifeless. Compared to the charm oozing out of Hiddleston, Wilson, and Gugu, and even PILLBOI, she just bad.

Bad acting on her part. Worst thing in the episode.

@HistoryofMatt - isn't she supposed to be impartial and not emotional as a judge?
HistoryofMatt
HistoryofMatt - 6/10/2021, 7:25 PM
@JonC - She's not the judge. The judge is Gugu... she was great and charming.

This is the Time Soldier lady, whose line readings were flat and who is a bad actress.

do you think like a soldier, they need to smile and do some funny things?

@solskulldeath - remember all the grief CM got for not smiling and they blamed it on Brie instead of her being a soldier.

There are so few characters in Loki that share the spotlight (The Tesseract even got a Legends episode), that I think its somewhat funny that they make a side character like B-15 so important.

Cool for Mosaku though, because few main characters do mean the side characters get the opportunity to shine a little more. Though I rather see more of Casey.
