New MS. MARVEL Still Released As Co-Creator Sana Amanat Addresses Changes To Kamala Khan's Powers

Kevin Feige has already addressed the significant changes to Kamala Khan's power-set for the upcoming Ms. Marvel Disney+ series, and the character's co-creator Sana Amanat has now weighed in...

While the trailers/promos for Ms. Marvel have been well-received by fans of the character for the most part, one aspect of the Disney+ series has led to quite a bit of backlash.

We now know that Kamala Khan's power-set will be significantly altered for her live-action debut, with her "embiggening" abilities from the comic books getting a Green Lantern-style overhaul. Kevin Feige has already offered an explanation (though not a particularity satisfying one) for this decision, and Ms. Marvel's co-creator Sana Amanat has now shared her take.

During an interview with EW, Amanat backed-up Feige by stating that it was "important to make sure that her powers are linking to larger stories in the Marvel universe," although she did also acknowledge that it was a "controversial" move that's upset a lot of fans.

"It's really fun to give Kamala different kinds of powers that feel big in scope and cinematic in a different way," she continued. "We can do a lot of fun things with her. I don't want to spoil too much about how she uses her powers, but they're fun and bouncy. At the same point, the essence of what the powers are in the comics is there, both from a metaphorical standpoint and from a visual standpoint. We're doing the embiggened fist. We're doing the elements that make her feel and look kind of crazy, but also really cool. I think it's going to be familiar to people, but at the same time, different in a fresh and unique way."

There's been a lot of speculation that Khan's body-morphing abilities may have been changed because they were a little too similar to Reed Richards', but if there's any truth to that, it probably won't come out until Marvel Studios makes some progress on the long-awaited Fantastic Four reboot!

Ms. Marvel is set to premiere next month, and also stars Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Nakli, Azhar Usman, Travina Springer, and Nimra Bucha.
