SECRET INVASION Concept Art Reveals Which Scenes Were Added In Reshoots (And There Were Some Big Ones)

Newly revealed Secret Invasion concept art reveals a number of scenes which were seemingly added during what must have been pretty extensive reshoots for the latest MCU Disney+ TV series. Check it out...

Secret Invasion got off to a great start only to somewhat decline in quality as the series progressed. There was something about those later episodes which didn't quite click, with that bizarre CG-heavy final battle a prime example of Marvel Studios taking a tried and tested route rather than surprising viewers.

Prior to the show hitting Disney+, we'd heard about somewhat extensive reshoots taking place over a four-month period. Now, we have details on what those entailed courtesy of concept art shared by Jeffrey Read.

"Had the pleasure of working on Marvel Secret Invasion with Frank Walsh (PD)," he says. "It was the reshoot leg though so deadlines were tight. Usually 1/2 day or 1-day deadlines, so everything is fairly loose."

"We went through a range of redesigns for the Fracking Pods. The early designs were much more high-tech and Alien but it was deemed too high-tech for what the [Skrulls] had at their disposal so we went in the low-fi DIY direction which came out really well on screen."

Based on what we see below, everything from Nick Fury and Sonya Falsworth's visit to his grave to Everett Ross' "death," the flashback with Nick Fury recruiting the Skruls to S.H.I.E.L.D., and Talos' early meeting with his daughter were added after principal photography concluded.

That's actually a little mind-blowing, especially when they were all pretty major sequences. It's unclear whether Secret Invasion suffered from creative issues behind the scenes, but something tells us this was another story Marvel Studios struggled to get where it needed to be.

You can check out some of Read's work below, though a full gallery can be found by visiting his ArtStation page.

My problem with these shows is that they lack scale and consequence to the rest of the MCU. It’s like they all happen in their own little corner and it’s isn’t as grand.

This was the first MCU show I didn't finish. I might one day, but I just got so incredibly bored with it.

There are worse things to come out of the MCU, but this might be the most middle of the road in terms of quality and interest for me.

So it is pretty much accepted that Marvel shot the show for $200 million, but because of sociopolitical real world issues (Russia invading Ukraine) the showrunners realized that some of the show’s plotlines could piss people off, so they threw out most of what they shot, and re-filmed everything for a fraction of the budget?

@narrow290 - Sorry but I need to ask. What exactly did you like about this show? For me, the only moment I felt something was interaction between Fury and his wife in episode four. I don't even know why they called this show Secret Invasion, Agent Fury: Homecoming would be much better 😅

@MatteMan - Right on. There were some good performances and the stakes felt real, epically after Maria Hill got smoked
wasn't perfect but overall I dug it. I liked Fury's arc, it was his fight and he handled it

@narrow290 - Interesting point of view. I can agree only with the performances, but writing in my opinion is a joke, there is nothing that makes sense. Big disappointment. Maria Hill's death was pointless.

Damn that's surprising. I wonder what the show was originally supposed to be like, cause what we got was so meh.
