The season finale of Secret Invasion is set to air on Disney+ next Wednesday, and director Ali Selim may have dropped a pretty significant spoiler for the episode.
Over the course of the previous 5 episodes, Skrull rebel leader Gravik (Kingsley Ben Adir) has waged a war against Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), doing everything in his power to break the former S.H.I.E.L.D. director's spirit by killing two of his closest allies (Maria Hill and Talos) right in front of him.
To say nothing of the thousands of innocent people Gravik murdered in the series premiere.
So, Fury is now out for his mortal enemy's blood... right?
In the penultimate episode, we saw Nick suit-up and head off for battle, but his inevitable clash with Gravik may not go at all how viewers will be expecting.
When asked by TV Line how the finale will compare to the "typical Marvel series CGI punch-fest," Selim responded:
“I can’t give it away. The thing that I love about this [show] is that the story is less about Nick Fury vanquishing Gravik and is more about Nick Fury reconciling with Gravik.”
Fury probably does feel some guilt about his part in radicalizing Gravik by failing to keep his promise to find the Skrulls a new home, but could he really forgive everything that's gone down? Is Gravik even deserving of redemption?
It's certainly going to be interesting to see how the finale plays out.
