Secret Invasion is set to premiere on Disney+ in just under two weeks, and it's probably fair to say that this "game-changing espionage thriller" is one of the most anticipated Marvel Studios shows yet.

Director Ali Selim describes the series as a "six-hour movie unto itself" with a defined conclusion during an interview with Total Film, but that doesn't mean there's no room for the story to continue in a second season.

"When it ends, I hope you feel satiated and complete. And as Marvel does so excellently, you also feel like 'Oh, it could go in this direction.'"

Selim also takes us quite close to spoiler territory by revealing that at least one, maybe more, characters will be killed-off over the course of the six episodes.

"Nick Fury is alive and continues to battle, I don’t think that’s a spoiler alert. And there are some characters that are no longer with us and some characters that live to see another challenge. I would love to see that challenge become season two."

Check out a new promo featuring new shots of the show's main players below.

"In Marvel Studios’ new series Secret Invasion, set in the present day MCU, Nick Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls. Fury joins his allies, including Everett Ross, Maria Hill and the Skrull Talos, who has made a life for himself on Earth. Together they race against time to thwart an imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity."

The series stars Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Cobie Smulders, Martin Freeman, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Charlayne Woodard, Killian Scott, Samuel Adewunmi, Dermot Mulroney, Christopher McDonald, Katie Finneran, with Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, and Don Cheadle.

Ali Selim directs and executive-produces, along with fellow executive producers Kevin Feige, Jonathan Schwartz, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Samuel L. Jackson, Ali Selim, Kyle Bradstreet and Brian Tucker. Kyle Bradstreet is also the head writer, and Jennifer L. Booth, Allana Williams and Brant Englestein serve as co-executive producers.

Secret Invasion is set to premiere on June 21.

Major Deaths?
We know about the future projects for Nick Fury and War Machine what major MCU character that appears in this is left? I wouldn't consider Cobie Smulders and Martin Freeman as major characters.

@kider2 - Smulders is the only one I can think of. She WAS a major character. Maybe not a super powered one, but she had a pretty big role in phases 1 and 2.

@kider2 - Hill, Ross and Talos are major characters in my book.

@CorndogBurglar

I'm not sure she's had a character arc in any of her movies...

@regularmovieguy - She didn't. But I can't really think of any other major characters. We know Fury and Rhodes survive.

And Maria Hill was around a lot in the first two phases.

Looking forward to this one. Feels more in the vein of Cap 2: Winter Soldier and Cap 3: Civil War to me, in that it’s a bit of a political thriller… involving aliens, but still

@VictorAlonzo - I would love it if that were the case. I don’t buy Sharon going evil.

@VictorAlonzo - of course she is. She helped stop hydra. And also was partly responsible for breaking up the avengers by sending cap directly to bucky

Taking out two major rival groups, making way for the skull invasion

"I would love to see that challenge become season two"

Would be pretty cool if season 2 is actually Dark Reign and season 3 Siege. Think it's a good place to introduce a different Norman Osborn

@bkmeijer1 - Maybe Norman Osborn becomes an American hero. He uses proto-weaponry including a glider.

When Norman's popularity rises, he is a candidate to be the new secretary of defense. Finally, he creates H.A.M.M.E.R. It is Norman's gestapo. So, he begins a reign of oppression.

Spider-Man may be one of the targets of H.A.M.M.E.R.

@Repian - exactly. I think its way more interesting to see him lead hammer. We already got Oscorp twice on-screen already. I'm ready for a different Osborn

Watch Maria Hill finally get a character arc only to die, lol.

She’s probably the character who has appeared the most without any significant development. Heck, she wasn’t even really Maria in Spider-Man: FFH.

DalekCraigWasson - 6/10/2023, 9:22 AM
@NoAssemblyReqd - I don't know if this has ever been confirmed either way, but there's no way Marvel went into FFH intending them to be Skrulls right? Spidey and Fury have a big relationship in Ultimate Marvel, so it makes 100% sense why he was included as the post-Iron Man MCU star, where as making him a Skrull means Spidey hasn't met Fury at all now.

It just feels way more likely to me that they wrote FFH as a genuine Spidey meets Fury story, then realized way, way too late in the process that Fury and Hill are barely in it, and when they are in it, they're morons for believing Beck's very flimsy story and evidence. So making them Skrulls fixes that without having to rewrite anything else in the story.

@DalekCraigWasson - classic deus ex machina moment. I hate how it means fury has never met peter though.

Wanna bet that, just like with Civil War, people will make memes where they put one of the splash pages from the original comic event next to a screen-shot of an action scene from this show and act like that's some mic drop prove of the comic being better?

Emilia Clarke is playing Talo's daughter, so Talos is going to die and we will get an "emotional" and cliche death escene wich is going to gave Emilia's and Nick Fury characters motivation to end the mission

Talos is definitely dying thanks to that shot of his daughter (Emilia Clarke) crying over a body in the trailer.
I can see Ross dying too, as well as Sonya & Gravik out of the new characters.

Circle prayer for Maria Hill, Ross and even Talos. 🙏
