Samuel L. Jackson has taken to Instagram to confirm he's in the midst of shooting new Nick Fury material. As you can see below, the legendary actor showed off some of the prosthetics he dons to play the former S.H.I.E.L.D. Director and captioned the images, "What's Jumpin' Off?"
Now, you might assume this is for Secret Invasion or The Marvels, but that doesn't quite line up with recent comments from Jackson.
Talking on Jimmy Kimmel Live! recently, he said: "I’m on my way back to London at some point in August, but I got to go back to do stuff with The Marvels, and I got to do stuff for Secret Invasion." It's possible that work on the latter was set to begin immediately, but it sounded like he meant that his scenes for the Disney+ show would also be shot later in the summer.
If that is indeed the case, what is Jackson shooting?
There are a number of Marvel Studios movies and TV shows currently in various stages of production, so that's hard to pin down. However, with both Secret Invasion and The Marvels set to have a major impact on the MCU, we wouldn't be surprised if this is content for a post-credits scene teasing either one of those projects. Your guess is as good as ours when it comes to what upcoming project that will be attached to (is it too late to add Jackson to Ms. Marvel?).
2023 is looking like a cosmic time for the MCU. After a couple of years of introducing new heroes and fresh status quos for familiar faces, we could finally see this world enter a new era and better establish whatever the next big threat will be following Thanos' Avengers: Endgame defeat.
While all eyes are on what Kang the Conqueror does next, Earth's Mightiest Heroes are likely going to find themselves taking on threats from multiple directions. As well as that reality-hopping villain and an alien invasion, the MCU's supernatural side is also being explored, with werewolves and vampires both set to make their presence felt as we get deeper into Phase 4 and beyond.
Secret Invasion doesn't currently have a premiere date, though it is expected to hit Disney+ next year. What we do know is that The Marvels is set to blast into theaters worldwide on July 28, 2023.
