The last time we saw Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury, he was attending Tony Stark's funeral after being blipped five years earlier. The Fury featured in Spider-Man: Far From Home was Talos, of course, and we know the real deal has been in outer space for some time.
He'll return to Earth in Secret Invasion, though, in an effort to stop the shape-shifting Skrulls from remaking our planet in their image.
We now have a new look at Fury courtesy of Empire Online, and Jackson has also commented on showing a more human side of the former S.H.I.E.L.D. Director. "All those things are part of a Nick Fury that’s invulnerable," the actor says of Fury's missing eyepatch and trench coat. "Here you have a guy who’s showing his face, and showing his age. It’s an opportunity to humanise someone that everybody thinks is superhuman."
While we know Jackson will return in The Marvels (the trailer for that movie essentially spoiled Secret Invasion), the actor hopes to continue playing Fury for a long time to come.
"I love playing him, and I love the fact that they’re opening him up to all these other possibilities and this whole life that he has," he teases. "So hopefully I’m not done, and in this new phase of the MCU I’ll still be floating in and out of there somehow, some way."
Check out that new look at Fury below:
In Secret Invasion, set in the present-day MCU, Nick Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls. Fury joins his allies, including Everett Ross, Maria Hill and the Skrull Talos, who has made a life for himself on Earth. Together they race against time to thwart an imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity.
The show stars Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Cobie Smulders, Martin Freeman, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Charlayne Woodard, Killian Scott, Samuel Adewunmi, Dermot Mulroney, Christopher McDonald, Katie Finneran, with Emilia Clarke and Olivia Colman, and Don Cheadle.
Secret Invasion arrives on Disney+ on June 21!
