As is usually the case, details on Emilia Clarke's role in Marvel's Secret Invasion have been under wraps since she joined the cast, but we may finally know which character the Game of Thrones actress will be playing in the upcoming Disney+ series.
There's been a lot of speculation that Clarke had been cast as Abigail Brand, but some recent set videos seemingly made it clear that her mysterious character would be working with the Skrull invaders, and sure enough, the one-time Queen of the Dragons is said to be playing Princess Veranke.
In the comics, Veranke was a member of the Dard'van, a deeply religious sect of Skrull society who prophesised the end of the Skrull Empire. After being exiled as a zealot by then-ruler Dorrek VII, she eventually took his place as Skrull Empress and orchestrated the Secret Invasion.
If this is accurate and the show sticks to the source material, there's a chance Clarke will be posing as Jessica Drew, aka Spider-Woman, on Earth.
Plot details are still under wraps, but we do know that the show will follow the basic premise of the comic book by focusing on "an infiltration of Skrulls on Earth" (no big surprises there). The cast will also include Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, and Olivia Coleman in an undisclosed role.
Thomas Bezucha (Let Him Go) and Ali Selim (The Looming Tower) have been tapped to helm the upcoming miniseries, which was written by Kyle Bradstreet (Mr. Robot). No official premiere date has been set.
