Marvel Studios dropped the first trailer for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law during last night's Disney Upfronts, and the Disney+ streaming service (via Collider) has now shared some official promo stills to accompany the footage.

Although the images are essentially trailer screenshots, they allow us to take a closer look Jennifer Walters' (Tatiana Maslany) both mid-transformation and in full Emerald Amazon mode.

While most fans seem happy enough with the character's overall design, the slightly dodgy VFX in several shots did come in for some ridicule. The CGI should be at least a little more polished for the show's August premiere, however.

The other stills feature the return of Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky (who appeared to be on the path to reformation in Shang-Chi), and Smart Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), who will take it upon himself to train his cousin for her new career as a superhero.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law follows Jennifer Walters as she navigates the complicated life of a single, 30-something attorney who also happens to be a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered hulk. The nine-episode series welcomes a host of MCU vets, including Mark Ruffalo as Smart Hulk, Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky/the Abomination, and Benedict Wong as Wong. The cast also includes Ginger Gonzaga, Josh Segarra, Jameela Jamil, Jon Bass and Renée Elise Goldsberry. Executive producers are Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Kat Coiro and Jessica Gao. Co-executive producers are Wendy Jacobson and Jennifer Booth.

If they can get all the CGI to look like this, we're good.

@Tonic24k - Yea, some of the shots are great, and some are wonky. Part of the issue is just getting to know Jennifer Walters as a character so that her facial movements feel connected to a person, which isn't really something we'll feel until we get to actually watch the show

@OmegaDaGrodd - I think the closeups are the best looking. It's when she's shown with more background that it becomes unnatural looking. Certainly something that can be fixed before August. But I am a little confused they released a trailer in this condition. Did they rush it due to those leaks? Dunno. But either way I'm not hating; just observing. Excited for this!

@Tonic24k - as a still, it doesn't look that bad at all. It's just the movement that looks kinda wonky. Think they can fix that though

My big concern with this show was whether it was going to have enough personality to offset any sort of financial limitations it would eventually run into

Color me surprised that this seems to be Marvel's most kinetic show aside from maybe Ms Marvel. The CG needs to be improved, but I can tell part of the issue is just getting used to a gigantic humanized green woman we don't really know yet. Much more excited for this than I thought I'd be (and glad to see that Jennifer Walters does in fact [frick] in this show. That's essential)

@OmegaDaGrodd -

Jen's luscious hair straight out of Belinda Carlisle's La Luna do something to me...

I am looking forward to this since I liked some of the comics that the character derived from but admit to agreeing to what a lot of fans has said about the CGI. It does need to be improved before the series actually debuts and hopefully it will.

IT HAS BEGUN...

@GhostDog - it had to happen soon.

Can't say I blame 'em though

I thought the trailer looked good. Yes, She-Hulk needs some fine tuning, but they have time to tune her up for before released.

The Hulk was great looking. I thought he looked better than Endgame.

Seeing a picture of She-Hulk and Hulk right after each other, makes me realize how odd CGI really is.

Hulk is very clearly not just a human face, so I guess the immersion is not broken as quickly. Whereas with She-Hulk, it is and thus the CGI is far more noticable. Guess this is good case (or bad case?) of uncanny valley.

Also, I wonder how they made She-Hulk. Did they go the First Avenger route and got a body double and imposed Maslany onto it, or is she fully CGI like Hulk?

@bkmeijer1 - One thing I learned about CG that was important was that CG artist often re-use models, so it doesn't surprise me Hulk looks a little more natural, because they didn't have to build him from the ground up for this show.

@OmegaDaGrodd - good point. Guess we'll have to wait and see how She-Hulk evolves over time.

@bkmeijer1 - I mention this in my own comment below, but I suspect a lot of it comes from the challenge of keeping She Hulk “pretty”. With the Hulk, they pile on the facial details… bit of a five o’clock shadow, rougher skin, tone variations, wrinkles, etc… and they all help sell the effect.

But they likely don’t want She Hulk to look nearly as weathered and rugged…. Less skin detail is generally seen as more attractive looking… but it also gives the CGI artists less to work with.

I think the effects need some work obviously but the overall content of the trailer was pretty good IMO. I liked what I saw and the feel of what the show will be. The effects really need to look good though if they're going to have her be she-hulk a lot.

Has it been explained why Banner is in human form in Shang-Chi and is smart Hulk here?
DoubleD
DoubleD - 5/18/2022, 10:28 AM
@CplHicks - That who the Hulk is since beginning of his comics been able to change back and forth from day one. Nothing new for the Hulk.
GhostDog
GhostDog - 5/18/2022, 10:32 AM
@CplHicks - nope and maybe they will here but I assume the real reason is time and schedule constraints with getting everyone to shoot that post-credit.

I figure its one of the two common theories that most fans have: he de-hulked after the long-term side effect of wielding the power of all six Infinity Stones kicked in. Took this time to let his arm heal and the hulked again after a long period.

Or

Bruce reverted back to his human form in order to give Jennifer the blood transfusion that turns her into She-Hulk.

@CplHicks - Even in 1977 the Hulk could change back and forth.

I like that they're leaning into the old 70s tv show transformation with the glowing eyes and beginning of the skin color shift

AOU cut a scene that definitely was a homage to it and I wish we got it

@GhostDog - Noticed how we never saw another Hulk transformation onscreen (Bruce to Hulk)?

If I'm not mistaken the last time we saw it entirely was in Avengers.
