SHE-HULK: ATTORNEY AT LAW Director Says Fourth Wall Breaks Will Yield "Some Big Surprises"

The San Diego Comic-Con trailer for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law brought confirmation of a few persistent rumors (including the involvement of a certain Man Without Fear), and we also learned that the Disney+ show will indeed be the first Marvel Studios project to break the fourth wall.

At one point, we see Tatiana Maslany's Emerald Amazon turn to look right at the camera, addressing the audience Deadpool-style. We're not sure how often this narrative device will be utilized in the series, but the Orphan Black star and her co-directors have assured fans that it won't only be used for comedic purposes.

While speaking to IGN, co-director Kat Coiro said there are "some big surprises coming regarding the fourth wall," though she did't elaborate any further. "I think breaking the fourth wall asks a lot of questions that I hope we get to answer for you in the show" added co-director Anu Valia. "So I just don't want to give too much away. But it's very fun, it's very cool."

"And also, it's a great way to bring the audience in," offered Maslany. "They already jump into the universe of the MCU but to be like 'hey, I know, I see you coming in so let's go together' is kind of a fun thing."

Have another look at the new She-Hulk trailer below.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law follows Jennifer Walters as she navigates the complicated life of a single, 30-something attorney who also happens to be a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered hulk. The nine-episode series welcomes a host of MCU vets, including Mark Ruffalo as Smart Hulk, Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky/the Abomination, and Benedict Wong as Wong. The cast also includes Ginger Gonzaga, Josh Segarra, Jameela Jamil, Jon Bass and Renée Elise Goldsberry. Executive producers are Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Kat Coiro and Jessica Gao. Co-executive producers are Wendy Jacobson and Jennifer Booth.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is set to premiere on Disney+ on August 17.

@Doomsday8888 - Twisted theory: Deadpool breaks the 4th wall because his mind is a multiverse in itself and he is aware of the multiverse but nobody believes him so he covers his insanity with comedy.

Do we think Deadpool is coming in via She-Hulk? That'd be pretty damn cool.

@PC04 - I'm definitely starting to think that. Don't wanna get my hopes up but I feel like, if they're happy to give away everything they gave away in the SDCC trailer, then they must be holding some more surprises back for the actual series.

Glad they're doing this to stay in line with the fun tone of the comic.

Can't fourth wall breaking just be in the show? Why does it need to raise questions?

@Origame - In a fandom that zooms into an image of wallpaper and thinks it's a clue to surprise character cameo? There's no stopping that train, might as well lean into it.

@Reeds2Much - nobody did that with Deadpool.

@Origame - Please, people went apeshit over the implications of the helicarrier appearing in the third act.

@Reeds2Much - that had nothing to do with the fourth wall breaking though.

@Origame - yeah but deadpool wasn't part of the marvel cinematic universe, it just did that and nothing more. Not that I think that it needs to raise questions, but looking at the fandom and how they used to look for clues of mephisto and hyper-analized every frame of every project, I'm not surprised about this.

@Origame - fourth wall breaking could tie into the multiverse... you act like someone is there because maybe someone is there... like dreams connecting into your variant's minds... its all connected.

@JonC - idk. That just seems unnecessarily complicated for what is just a fun gimmick.
