After recently releasing a television spot inspired by the famed and long-running Law & Order series, Marvel/Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law has debuted yet another promo, this time inspired by another hit show, Better Call Saul.
The video plays like an advertisement for the Superhuman Law Division of Goodman, Leiber, Kurtzburg, and Halloway, which is the firm that our main protagonist works for.
The fake advertisement opens with a voiceover monologue from our own Jenn Walters, asking "Have you ever been made to feel like you didn't belong? Been called an Abomination by a supervisor? It's enough to make you want to Hulk out and SMASH! I'm Jennifer Walters and I'm here to tell you not to get Angry. Get a Lawyer!"
The whole spot plays out in a very meta and self-referential way that highlights the humorous tone we can expect from the series.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law writer and executive producer Jessica Gao (Rick and Morty) sat down with Entertainment Weekly to discuss her approach and how to balance the comedy with everything else people have come to expect from a Marvel project.
"I had a very specific idea of the tone that I wanted for the show, having come from comedy and really having thought about it for so long," She said, adding "But it was really tricky having to balance comedy and being light and irreverent and also very meta and self-aware, but also there's this kind of expectation of being part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and balancing all of the action and the drama and the plot, too."
The series has been referred to as a "Slice-of-life" comedy, but fans have been assured that even without a world-ending event on the horizon, there's still going to be plenty of action.
"What's really fun about this show is that in the Marvel movies, we get to see a lot of high stakes events — the universe is going to end, everyone in existence is going to go away," said Gao. "But what happens in between those events? What happens on a regular Tuesday when you just have to do laundry? That's really kind of the slice of life that this show explores."
Tune in on Thursday, August 18th on Disney+ to catch episode one of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
