MTV has debuted the first official still from their Jon Favreau-produced adaptation of Terry Brooks' series of Shannara novels. Take a look at Ivana Baquero as Eretria and Austin Butler as Wil Ohmsford.

Jon Favreau and Smallville duo Al Gough and Miles Millar will produce the show, which is based on the 20-strong series of novels (there has been one graphic novel also - The Dark Wraith Of Shannara - published back in 2008) in Terry Brooks' Shannara saga. The story is set after the destruction of our civilization in the "great wars", with the world reverting to a medieval state and magic re-emerging. Many of the protagonists in the story are descended from the Eleven noble family of Shannara.

Apparently the TV show will begin by adapting the second novel in the series, The Elfstones Of Shannara. The first two episodes will be directed by TMNT's Jonathan Liebesman.

MTV did a pretty solid job with the Teen Wolf series. Ratings and reviews are pretty solid. That gives me a little more hope with the project, along with a pretty good cast.

The Shannara books weren't Young Adult reading, I don't think. They were a straight out fantasy series. But that casting sure does make it look like a teen series, doesn't it?

"But that casting sure does make it look like a teen series, doesn't it?"

Well, the characters were around that age. Manu Bennet will add some adult edge to it. ;-)

D-level Game of Thrones but with cliched fantasy tropes.

Never read the books (always meant to, though), but I will give anything Fantasy a chance. Also it has Crixus, so that's a plus.

If Teen Wolf is MTV then that's probably the only show from them I came in touch with. I didn't watch much, but what I saw I found pretty silly. But I guess I'm not the target audience to begin with.

If I remember correctly this series is kind of like Lord of The Rings. Hopefully MTV can do justice to this series and more companies will then want to make more fantasy TV shows. Whoever does a Wheel of Time series will get me to watch their channel. Plus someone needs to license the rights to Rifts, it has elements of Steampunk, Cyberpunk, Dieselpunk & Lovecraft like creatures.

Yep, that's him. He's dating Vanessa Hudgens.

I personally think that he always has only one face/expression/emotion on and off screen, so I'm worried about him being the lead in this new show.

Okay, not sure how I feel about that then. I really didn't like him on Arrow, but I never could say if it was the role or the actor. Ultimately I didn't care because it was only a bit part in an already troubled season.

But if he got a leading role here it might mean trouble for my personal enjoyement. Guess I'll have to go with a cautiously optimistic wait and see approach about the show. It still has Crixus!

Good for him on the Vanessa Hudgens thing, though! ;)

Love the books, I've read at least three trilogies, one I think had four books plus his magic kingdom books. Very excited about this!

I really loved the books. Any one know when this will air. I want to set up the DVR to record or other wise I will forget it is on. Hell, I forget that MTV is still on.

MTV is killing it with Teen Wolf imo, Scream has potential too

Shannara isn't a YA novel, nor is it a cliched D level game of thrones. Excellent series, and I can't wait to see this.

Pathogen - 7/8/2015, 8:05 AM
@aXe I'm not sure what they are "killing". Scream looks like complete ass, have you seen the horrible acting on the trailers?
I say this as I am watching an episode of Teen Wolf. As much as I poke fun of the CW shows, I do watch this as a guilty pleasure...even though this season is stupid as hell so far. If it continues like this, I'll probably only watch a couple more then stop watching the series all together
ThedamnBatman
ThedamnBatman - 7/8/2015, 8:36 AM
@Pathogen They are killing it with Teen Wolf, I really like that show, I have to disagree, i like the "doctors" so far, and the plot has me very interested.

Scream shows promise, I like the who dunnit type of mysteries so I'm intrigued as to who or how many are behind the mask.

That being said, my favourite show I'm watching at the moment is Mr.Robot without a doubt, that series only had two episodes and both of them have been excellent

Pathogen - 7/8/2015, 8:49 AM
@aXe You're young, aren't ya? I'm not putting you down, just seems you're the demographic for those shows.

Nope, not young, I started watching Teen Wolf to see Dylan O'Brien's acting, since he was rumoured to be Spider-Man, and I got hooked on the show having watched the original Teen Wolf movie, and seeing how different and much darker it was to it's predecessor. Sure there is your unavoidable teen bullshit, but once you get pass that the story was and is very entertaining.
Scream was my guilty pleasure, loved the movies, so ofcourse I am excited for a TV series about one of the franchises I enjoyed watching.
Pathogen
Pathogen - 7/8/2015, 4:51 PM
@aXe Ah, gotcha. I wasn't that into the Scream franchise. I did enjoy the first one, but they got hokey after that for me. But I can see how, if you like the franchise, you'd overlook how bad the trailers make the TV show seem
I'll admit, I do enjoy TeenWolf, at least up to now. The music of the first 3 seasons had been right up my wheelhouse, as well. But damn...you said it about the teen bullshit. It is corny as all hell! haha

I've been wanting to see stuff about this. When I went to Supercon in Miami Manu Bennet, the guy that played Slade on Arrow, is in it and seemed real excited about it.
