MTV is looking to get into the Game of Thrones business.
The Wrap reports thatthe network has made a full-season commitment to a live-action television show based on Terry Brooks' Shannara fantasy series. Back in December, it was reported that Iron Man director Jon Favreau would direct however, that appears to not be the case as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles helmer, Jonathan Liebesman will direct the first two episodes. Favreau is still working on the project as an executive producer so it's not out of the realm of possibility that he'll direct one of the other episodes. The first season has received a 10 episode commitment.
The series is a very traditional sword and sorcery, fantasy series - with an added twist that the novels are set in a post-apocalyptic, medieval setting of a far-flung future where the Earth has been radically altered due to Chemical Warfare. In this setting, magic replaces science as the catalyst of human progression (although scientific achievements and rediscoveries do emerge later on in the series). Now for the important question, who's going to play Garet Jax?

The sole weapon against this Power of Darkness was the Sword of Shannara, which could only be used by a true heir of Shannara--Shea being the last of the bloodline, upon whom all hope rested. Soon a Skull Bearer, dread minion of Evil, flew into the Vale, seeking to destroy Shea. To save the Vale, Shea fled, drawing the Skull Bearer after him....
