THE SHANNARA CHRONICLES Gets A Full Trailer & A New Poster

Over the weekend at NYCC, MTV released a brand new trailer and some key art for their surprisingly decent looking small-screen take on Terry Brooks' series of fantasy novels, The Shannara Chronicles.

Coming to MTV in January 2016, ‘The Shannara Chronicles’ is a new TV series based on the best-selling fantasy novels by Terry Brooks. Set thousands of years after the destruction of our civilization, the story follows an Elven Princess, Amberle, a half-human half-elf, Wil, and a human, Eretria, as they embark on a quest to stop a Demon army from destroying the Four Lands.

Jon Favreau and Smallville duo Al Gough and Miles Millar will produce the show, which is based on the 20-strong series of novels (there has been one graphic novel also - The Dark Wraith Of Shannara - published back in 2008) in Terry Brooks' Shannara saga. The story is set after our civilization was destroyed in the "great wars", with the world reverting to a medieval state and magic re-emerging. Many of the protagonists in the story are descended from the Eleven noble family of Shannara.

The TV show will begin by adapting the second novel in the series, The Elfstones Of Shannara. The first two episodes will be directed by TMNT's Jonathan Liebesman.

Question: Does MTV still have music channels that broadcast only music? I remember from my youth this channel was only about music, but it's seams a lot has changed.

Nasseal82isback: MTV = Music TV so yeah, it would make sense that they'd have one. But I don't think so.

@Nasseal82isback, the thing is, MTV realized a few years ago that in the age of the internet where damn near every music video ever made is readily available online, people are no longer going to their channel to watch videos. Why would anyone sit through videos, most of which they may not like, just to catch particular videos when they can just go to Youtube and immediately see what they want.

That's why they moved away from music to focus on scripted and unscripted programming. An exec even stated that the 'M' no longer stands for music. The channel is just MTV.

Being a big fan of the book series, I will be watching. Outside of Manu being too short for Allanon, it looks good to me, but I can live with that because Manu will do a good job at the actual role.

I'd be more interested if I liked an actual show on MTV. Not even one.

Teen Wolf gave me faith that Mtv can do good, and with Favreau behind the this, I believe Mtv may have another hit.
