The 8-episode second season of Netflix's Altered Carbon will be released on Thursday, February 27. MCU mainstay Anthony Mackie will replace Joel Kinnaman as the most current "sleeve" for Takeshi Kovacs, though Kinnaman is still expected to appear in some capacity.

Netflix's popular cyber punk drama is an adaptation of the novels written by Richard K. Morgan. Alison Schapker replaces Laeta Kalogridis as showrunner for season 2.

Did you binge-watch the first season? What do you think of Mackie replacing Kinnaman as the lead? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Season 2 of the sophisticated and compelling sci-fi drama finds Takeshi Kovacs (Anthony Mackie), the lone surviving soldier of a group of elite interstellar warriors, continuing his centuries-old quest to find his lost love Quellcrist Falconer (Renée Elise Goldsberry). After decades of planet-hopping and searching the galaxy, Kovacs finds himself recruited back to his home planet of Harlan’s World with the promise of finding Quell. Haunted by his past and responsible for investigating a series of brutal murders, Kovacs is stunned to discover his new mission to solve the crime and his pursuit to find Quell are one and the same. With the help of his loyal A.I. Poe (Chris Conner), Kovacs must now partner with new allies to outwit his enemies and find the truth: Who is Quellcrist Falconer?

The 1st season was not bad, I liked some of the diversions from the books, but this looks like they've gone totally away from the books altogether.

@nonserviam - Game of Thrones and Preacher proved if you think you're smarter than the original writer, you will lose.

@soberchimera - Exactly. I've read all the books, and although they are not the greatest books ever written, they were enjoyable, and would have made a decent Netflix series on their own, without changing anything.

I enjoyed season one, and will miss seeing Martha Higareda as Ortega.
I don't normally read hard Sci Fi, but did read the book, so the Series filled in some of the concepts that didn't fully understand when reading the book.
Looking forward to this and quite fun having an in universe reason for the lead to keep being re cast

Does this series keep getting better every episode? I bailed after 15 min when it first aired.

Thats actually pretty sweet. Been trying to find some shows for the coming few months (recommendations are welcome). So far I only got Titans (which is really an improvement over the first season), The Witcher and in a few weeks Narcos: Mexico. Now back on topic, I enjoyed the first season of AC so'll watvh this one too

Since I am not familiar with the books, I'm more open to changes (that I normally complain about in MCU films). I hope they run for several seasons and change out the actor with each as necessary. Could be interesting? Mackey's ok but I hope he's not flooding the market to the point where people tire of him. I really enjoyed the dynamic between him and Cap and wish it would've gone on for a couple more flicks.

@lawndart - Even in the books he's in a different body for each one. They actually grow enhanced sleeves for them to be cast into.

@90caliber - so it wouldn’t be a big departure from the source material? Cool!

@lawndart - Only in that aspect, otherwise he first season was a big departure from the books. Things like his sister, she is only in the books when he talks about his childhood, not as an adult, they used her to replace as major character who was way more fun to read about. Quell did not invent the tech to cast your mind,no mention of Martians at all, I mean they really bastardized the story and it was worse off for it

I enjoyed season 1 so this excites me. I will miss Joel in the lead as I thought he actually did a good job.. will be interesting to see how Mackie does this time around

I'm slightly disappointed that they're going to Harlan's World because it means they're completely bypassing the second book which was my favorite. The first season was already a let down by season 1 due to the fact that there is no mention of The Martians, which is where they got the technology to cast anyway. It was not created by humans. They're basically piggybacking off of the Martians who actually developed the tech, and either went extinct, were killed off or the whole race cast themselves beyond the reach of humans. By not acknowledging that it just the made the second novel, Wokken Furies, completely irrelevant. It's a great interplanetary adventure too!

That's so awesome, I had forgotten that it was even coming and now it's just neatly a month away yeey! The first season completely surprised me and I was really attached to those characters. I'm keeping an open mind on all the actor changes and just hoping for the best.
