THE WITCHER Star Henry Cavill Is Rumored To Have Been FIRED From The Netflix Series

A new rumor doing the rounds online is claiming that Henry Cavill didn't part ways with The Witcher willingly, and was actually fired for his "toxic, gamer-bro" attitude...

When it was announced that Henry Cavill had parted ways with The Witcher, it was generally assumed that he must have decided to leave the role of Geralt behind after the opportunity to return as Superman presented itself. However, a new rumor doing the rounds online points to a very different - and far more troubling - reason for the actor's departure.

According to gossip account Deuxmoi, Cavill was actually fired from the Netflix show after repeatedly being cautioned about his "toxic, gamer-bro" like behaviour. It's said that Cavill grew increasingly difficult to work with, especially to female members of the crew. There were no complaints of a sexual nature, but his language was reportedly toxic and disrespectful all the same.

Apparently, “someone on the show” compared Cavill’s alleged gamer bro radicalization to “watching someone get brainwashed by QAnon.”

It seems the final straw came when he began to override showrunner Lauren Hissrich and "get changes made last minute across the board without her knowledge."

“Eventually top brass at Netflix was tired of him costing them money with delays [and] HR investigations. The showrunner was asked to construct a potential exit for him. Netflix reached out to him personally, and he was given one final warning, and violated that warning with an email he sent to the entire writing staff, right after that meeting. That was it.”

Jezebel's report also alludes to Cavill losing the role of Superman for the same reasons, but they don't actually provide any evidence to support this, so we'd say it's most likely an assumption.

How much stock should we put in this? Well, the source has shared quite a few stories that turned out to be accurate in the past, and Hissrich has chosen her words very carefully when quizzed about Cavill's departure, suggesting that there might be more to the story than she's willing or able to discuss at this time. Even so, it's best not to take any of this at face value until we hear from those directly involved.

I really hope this isn't true. He was like the one guy from the DCEU I liked.

@KWilly - Unfortunately it probably is. But with that said it also is probably beeing played up more. A show has long days and crazy hours. Anyone can be rude or unpleasant at times. Wouldn't be surprised if this is more between Henry and Lauren. And the behind the scenes people always try to leak their side and look better.

@Steel86 - True. I'm sure Tom Holland has had his real bad days doing Spider-Man so often. Just hasn't been reported lol

@KWilly - it was reported a few times that he was clashing with showrunners for not being faithful to the material. Sounds to me like the shortener wants to disparage hin because he was an actual fan and shit on their vision.

@Amaru - I totally do. But everything is a matter of perspective and how you want to spin it. I completely believe what they are reporting is true, BUT slanted to suit the complainants’ narrative. From Henry’s perspective I’m sure he was reading the script thinking something along the lines of “What the [frick] are these idiots doing? This is not The Witcher. I’m going to fix this shit myself, because every time I bring it up, these self absorbed pricks just smile at me and ignore it”. It just so happened that the people he was dealing with who were in the decision making positions were women, hence the no sexual comments. Because it was simply a person who respected the source material, who happened to be a man, railing against people who didn’t, who happened to be women. And because they couldn’t handle being told they didn’t know what they were doing, rather than actually listen and learn, they’re now pulling the misogynist card. Get [frick]ed. Dickheads are dickheads, no matter what’s between their legs. The #METOO movement may have done a lot of well deserved damage to the scumbags of Hollywood, but it’s also done a lot of collateral damage by providing undeserved protection to incompetent people.

@Tasmaniac - i think you nailed it. Those left get to write the narrative, i dunno what gamer bro language could mean other than reverence for the source.

@AmazingFILMporg

Or The Witcher stuff as well.

One writer did get fired/left the job because they didn't respect the source material at all and then ended up working with Marvel Studios' X-Men animated show and one of his priorities was to hire/work with people who ACTUALLY love the IP in the first place.

'Cause, seriously, otherwise what's the f*cking point???

Imagine having an actor respecting the source material and loving it and "creatives" consider that a threat because they contribute shit to the project.

Grace Randolph is spreading rumors that he is hated in Hollywood. Also that he is being rejected left and right.

This is a coordinated effort to kill his career😐

Do you know the guy personally? Otherwise, he isn't more than some random handsome guy, who played fictional characters people like.

He has two major studios after him.

WB and Netflix. These guys have billions on the line and Cavill needs to be destroyed or severely reduced in order for their franchises to florish.

The Witcher has millions on the line and it has become a joke without Cavill.

DC has billion on the line with their universe. I get the reboot angle but now we're hearing that Gunn won't fully reboot and keep some of the DCEU but he got rid of Cavill? That's gonna cause a huge backlash😐...

Also they are spreading rumors Cavill was dropped by his agent who is rocks ex wife😐...

@AmazingFILMporg - take a breather here. We don't know what the deal is, so the conjecture doesn't help. It's actually harmful, because once the truth does fully emerge this type of behavior prevents you from potentially accepting it (dependent on the news of course). Take it all with a grain of salt and an open mind.

I figured something like this was going to come out eventually after hearing how he disliked how they treated the source material. I’ve got a feeling this is true HOWEVER I’m willing to bet the studio is blowing it way out of proportion because he didn’t agree with their take on how the show should be made.

Maybe respect the source material when your main actor is a fan of it and shit like this won’t happen.

globaltravels - 12/24/2022, 8:04 PM
@TheFireForce - I can imagine him being upset/angry and perhaps even writing angry emails, but I also think it’s because of his frustration of dealing with the execs and writers not respecting something he clearly does. It’s basically a hit piece in which they’ve taken a sliver of truth (Cavill being upset) and twisted it to save face and try and rescue the franchise. As for the DC rumor, well, everyone’s been fired so that doesn’t really count.
JFerguson

Sounds like bullshit. Seems more likely that he was to resume commitment on his Superman role and didn’t expect that to fall through before leaving this show.

But you never know. I will wait for further news
ThouBear8
ThouBear8 - 12/24/2022, 12:46 PM
Well as reliable as this source seems 🙄 this seems at most like a gross exaggeration of his behavior to try to save face, since almost everyone was on his side.

Also if they were "trying to write him out", then wouldn't they have put a different character in the lead, rather than just a recast actor? That makes no sense to me.
