ANDOR Showrunner Confirms 12-Episode Season 2 Plans And Teases Appearance From Alan Tudyk's K-2SO

Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy has confirmed plans for a 12-episode second season of the Disney+ series while dropping some hints about Alan Tudyk's K-2SO eventually making an appearance...

There's a lot of intrigue surrounding Andor, particularly when it comes to whether the show will feature the return of Alan Tudyk's straight-talking reprogrammed Imperial droid, K-2SO. We've heard that he might not appear in the upcoming first season, but the anticipation is that Lucasfilm will one day reveal how these two met.

Talking to Vanity Fair (via SFFGazette.com), Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy finally set the record straight.

"We don’t have Alan Tudyk," the filmmaker confirmed. "Not yet, anyway." Despite that, Gilroy suggested this is a plot point we'll see play out when the show returns with its second batch of episodes. "It is a second season, but it’s really, for me, the second half of the novel. This first season is about him becoming a revolutionary, and the second 12 episodes take him into Rogue One."

This contradicts recent reports that Andor will get a third season, and it instead appears as if the plan is to tell Cassian Andor's story over two 12-episode seasons. That's surprisingly ambitious, but Lucasfilm is clearly relying on fans being interested in following the character's adventures prior to the events of 2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

"There are certain events that happen in these five years that are important and need to be paid attention to," Gilroy added. "There are certain people, characters that are legacy characters, that the audience, the passionate audience, really feels that they have an understanding of and know."

"In some cases, they’re right," he continued. "And in some cases, what we’re saying is, ‘What you know, what you’ve been told, what’s on Wookieepedia, what you’ve been telling each other...is really all wrong." So, we're clearly getting a deep dive into Star Wars lore with this show!

That's exciting on a number of levels, and suggests we'll get to explore the Rebellion's early days in a way that's previously only ever really been teased. We anticipate some familiar faces showing up along the way, of course, but who those characters will be remains a mystery to us for the time being. Fingers crossed for Darth Vader or one of his Sith Inquisitors at some point, though!

Andor is expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime this summer.

But what the showrunner of The Acolyte is saying about the inspirations and influences for it sound amazing. Wuxia films, Come Drink With Me and Touch Of Zen.

One of the only Star Wars series I could care less about. Rogue one was an ok one off movie but didn’t give me any reason to want more of those characters. Maybe if blind priest guy would’ve went full Jedi force powers at the wnd I would’ve liked it more.

So 24 episodes in total? I kinda made the assumption they were shooting seasons 1 and 2 back-to-back, although I don't know where I'm basing that assumption on.

I do hope we get to see more of the galaxy though, outside of Cassian and the Rebellion. We know he was shady before meeting Jyn, so I do wanna see all sorts of shady stuff. Maybe even surprise us with him dealing with smugglers like Han and Lando or crimelords like Maul.

I wasn't interested at first, but once I heard of what they are doing with this show, the characters, and of course the timeline, I am intrigued. Don't know if the rumors are true, and I'm not into spoiling things, but I have high hopes for this series. Also Rogue One is criminally underrated. It got swept up in the sequel hate.

Good to see Luna and Huerta get some big tiles after Narcos Mexico. Now if can get Luis Gerardo Méndez some big roles too.

Wait….Crappy boring Andor gets 12 episodes but bad ass Boba Fett got SIX?!?

Kathleen Kennedy really does have a disdain for so many things Lucas created.

Han dies like a bitch
Luke a bitter old man..who dies without a major payoff
Leia dies force projecting Han to talk to her emo son.
Chewy is Rey’s per, not a killer mechanic and co-pilot.
R2-D2 was a dusty piece of furniture
C-3PO was hated by all of the main cast of the sequels

And I hate to see what she does to Kenobi and Vader.

Really liked how gritty Rogue One was compared to typical SW movies. Looking forward to it.
