STAR WARS: ANDOR Writers Include Tony Gilroy And KONG: THE SKULL ISLAND And THE AMERICANS Scribes

After that first trailer dropped during Star Wars Celebration, excitement for Andor has significantly increased. The series certainly looks like something different from this Galaxy Far, Far Away (which is no bad thing at this stage) and we now have some news on the writing team behind the highly anticipated Disney+ series.

The Writers Guild of America's website (via SFFGazette.com) has shared a list of writers who penned the first seven chapters of the twelve-part series. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story scribe Tony Gilroy wrote the first three episodes, Dan Gilroy (Kong: Skull Island) wrote four, five, and six, while Stephen Cliff (The Americans) is responsible for episode seven.

We anticipate more writers being revealed soon as it's previously been confirmed that Andor's first season will be comprised of 12 episodes. Season two, which begins production later this summer, will also be 12 episodes. As a result, this Rogue One prequel is going to play out over the course of 24 episodes, giving Lucasfilm plenty of room to tell this story.

While some fans have wondered why Cassian's origin needs that much room to breathe, we also anticipate seeing the formative years of the Rebellion explored in a big way.

Andor will explore a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.

Diego Luna returns as Cassian Andor and is joined by cast members Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough and Kyle Soller. The show premieres on Disney+ on August 31.

I’ve had the lowest expectations for Andor but I should know not to doubt Tony Gilroy. Might end up being my favorite Star Wars show.

@regularmovieguy - And the writing staff is good as well. When you have the writers of House of Cards and Nightcrawler attached, there is hope for something that hopefully won't be bland Star Wars fan fiction like the recent live-action series.

Oh this is gonna be good. Gilroy and a scribe from The Americans

@GhostDog - Don't forget about the creator of Netflix's House of Cards and the writer/director of Nightcrawler as part of the writing staff as well.

I like Gilroy's involvement, and the fact that they know they're doing 24 episodes makes me think they have a very specific outline planned, gives me confidence this'll turn out just fine.

Got no worries and am quite excited. Last time I had that was with the first season of The Mandalorian. Every Star Wars show in between all had certain expectations to live up to, but I'm going into this one with no such expectations at all.

The writer of Michael Clayton is running this show and people are still concerned? I wasn’t crazy about Rogue One but Gilroy only script doctored that; he’s clearly more closely involved with this show.
