OBI-WAN KENOBI Casting Details Reveal Actors Playing A New Jedi And Breha Organa, Princess Leia's Mother

Now we've had our first look at Obi-Wan Kenobi, speculation is running rampant about many of the other characters who will appear in the Disney+ limited series. Yesterday, we got character details for O'Shea Jackson Jr., Indira Varma, and Kumail Nanjiani, and Bespin Bulletin (via SFFGazette.com) has followed up by revealing Benny Safdie's role in the show.

We've previously told you about a young Jedi who comes to Tatooine searching for Obi-Wan, only to be rebuffed by the Jedi Master. That's Nari, and Safdie will be bringing him to life here. The site adds that "Reva, The Fifth Brother, and The Grand Inquisitor shake down civilians trying to lure Nari out, and all three enter an establishment [where] we see the Grand Inquisitor giving a speech about the Jedi not being able to help themselves."

As you might recall from our previous reports, Nari was a Padawan who grew up in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant and has been searching for Obi-Wan ever since seeing his message after Order 66 was enacted. Unfortunately, "Ben" Kenobi isn't looking to help him as he's too dejected following the fall of the Jedi Order. That doesn't end well for poor Nari, but it's then that Obi-Wan is spurred into action.

Safdie is actually best known for his work behind the camera alongside brother Josh. They helmed Uncut Gems and Good Time, though Benny has also acted in several projects, including Licorice Pizza, Pieces of a Woman, and Christopher Nolan's upcoming Oppenheimer.

Another interesting tidbit is that actress Simone Kessell is playing Breha Organa, Princess Leia's mother.

Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres on Disney+ on May 25.

@grif - I don't think it will be that bad but it will be bad. The Inquisitors look awful in live action.

@grif - At the very least it's going off planet. The fact that Boba himself didn't leave tatooine at least once is a joke

I wonder if they’ll have a scene with a young Leia having a dream or force vision or something about Padme so they can justify her comment in Return if the Jedi where she tells Luke she has memories of her being beautiful but sad.

Benny was also directly in Good Time. He played Connie’s (Pattinson) brother and is the key factor in the events that happen.

Look, in theory, I can understand not necessarily casting the actress who played Breha Organa in Revenge Of The Sith (Rebecca Jackson Mendoza), as she's not an active actress, as far as I've read (even though she's done a few other things or so and, as far as I've read, is still capable of performing), but they race changed the character: The Breha Organa actress is filipino, not maori. This is a thing I could understand if there was some shortage of filipino actresses, but as far as I think I've seen in the past, there's not. If you can't get her, at least cast her sister, who is a more active actress (Natalie Mendoza) or, at the very least, cast another filipino actress.

I may not care that much about racial issues, like this, but I want consistency. The bare minimum I push for is that the characters be the races their characters are supposed to be.

We'll see...

The character's supposed to be filipino. They not only didn't use the same actress who played her in Revenge Of The Sith, they didn't even seem, to me, to cast within her race.

I’m just giving you a hard time bro.

@WruceBayne - I can get that. However Breha Organa would more likely be native to Alderan.

@eGGtheGreat - I see you didn't mention the race or sex of Leia's mom and I just can't believe you would come here to this site with that kind of sexism and racism implied CLEARLY in your lack of comments about it!!! Disgusting and diabolical!!!
