StarWars.com has announced plans for Marvel Comics to launch Star Wars: Obi-Wan, a new five-issue miniseries written by Christopher Cantwell with art by Ario Anindito coming this May.

Arriving just in time for the release of Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+, it's said this comic book will find the iconic Jedi in the final days of his time living as a hermit on Tatooine. However, it will actually chronicle some of his early adventures taken from the journals he kept while on the planet. This means we will follow him as a Padawan, during the Clone Wars, and his time as a Jedi Master.

We'll even learn more about Obi-Wan's life prior to his training under Master Qui-Gon Jinn, and Cantwell opened up to the site on what he enjoyed most about exploring the Jedi's storied history.

"Writing Yoda was surreal. Getting that speech pattern right isn’t as easy as it sounds. And I’ve always loved Qui-Gon. He’s my favorite part of the prequels and such a fascinating character. Anakin proved trickier, because he’s as multifaceted as a diamond." he admitted. "But it’s been a joy touching upon them all, and also playing with some beloved alien species and even creating a couple new characters that I think integrate well into the larger universe."

Star Wars Day, May The Fourth, falls on a Wednesday this year, so the expectation is that's when Obi-Wan Kenobi will premiere on Disney+. Between that and this comic, it's going to be an exciting time for fans of this character and we're sure Lucasfilm probably has more surprises planned.

Ugh!! I’m making a video on the history of Obi-wan and they keep adding more content with books and comics! Good because it is great to see more of the character. But bad because it’s more work lol!

"And I’ve always loved Qui-Gon. He’s my favorite part of the prequels and such a fascinating character."

That's an odd pick for favourite. There's not much that's interesting about him as a character.

@Nightwing1015 - similar to boba fett. nothing much interesting about his character but still gets attention

@Nightwing1015 - I'd respectfully disagree. Qui-Gon is one of the only Jedi to see through the flaws of the Code and the danger of how political the Order has become. He's a renegade who still remains committed enough to the Jedi Way to stay even after his own Master rejects the Order.

@SerKurtWagner - There's definitely interesting stuff in that regard in the character, it's just that it wasn't explored in the actual films but rather expanded upon in later years. That's what I meant.

@Nightwing1015 - Okay, that makes sense. I would love to see more of that added stuff explored in a series, though. Don't know who'd make a good young Qui-Gon and Dooku.

Qui-Gon in his 20s-30s would/should be a limited series on DISNEY+

Being interesting to see his relationships with a young and Good guy Count Dooku and just Qui-Gons exploration into the Force and where he came to his unique and specific beliefs that always put him at odds with the Jedi Council.

I think one of the greatest strengths of the CLONE WARS/DISNEY+ Series is to show how much more of a life these characters had beyond the central plots that drove them in the films and saga narrative.

And those stories and relationships are just as strong as the main ones.

@MrKeyzerSoze - we probably won’t, unless it is a flashback. Her last story was supposed to be in Clone Wars but when it was canceled they adapted the episodes into a book. I doubt they’ll bring her back

@Waddles @MrDandy - are these books canon?
MrDandy
MrDandy - 2/4/2022, 12:59 PM
@MrKeyzerSoze - yes. Dooku Jedi Lost is actually an audio play. I’d recommend listening to that in that format over reading. It also has the voice actress who plays Ventress in that role
Repian

@Waddles - Cliff Curtis would be perfect to play Quinlan Vos. Did Quinlan die?

I'm torn. More Obi-wan is always good, but not necessarily if they are going to use this as more required reading to cover up or fill in various plot deficiencies like they did with the sequel trilogy. Hopefully, since it is a series, they won't run into that issue.

That first cover is great.

And may 4 is definitely gonna be this show's premiere. Would be weird if they did a week later (assuming Moon Knight doesn't premiere with a double episode)

Definitely Frazetta influenced, even the signature. Very nice cover.

I recognized the writer's name but couldn't remember from where so I did a google search and Disney might want to ask google to prioritize their writer over the other name found in search results. I had to actually put "star wars" into the search parameters with his name to find the right one. He might want to shorten his name to just Chris or something.

This is pretty hilarious though cause if one didn't know better you could think Disney hired a self proclaimed nazi bitch to write this show lol
