OBI-WAN KENOBI Star Joel Edgerton Reveals Whether He's Been Contacted About A Possible Second Season

It's no secret Ewan McGregor is pushing for a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Uncle Lars actor Joel Edgerton has now revealed whether he's heard anything about another batch of episodes being made...

While Lucasfilm made some questionable creative decisions (what was the deal with The Grand Inquisitor's new look?), Obi-Wan Kenobi was largely embraced by Star Wars fans. The series shed new light on the Jedi Master's first meeting with Princess Leia, his previously unheard-of post-Episode III rematch with Darth Vader, and much more.

The show ended with roughly another decade to go before the events of A New Hope, and back at full power, we can't discount the possibility that Obi-Wan went on other adventures during that time. It's not even outside the realm of possibility that he and the Jedi once known as Anakin Skywalker crossed paths again.

Ewan McGregor has said on multiple occasions that he wants a second season, but someone who hasn't heard anything about plans for more episodes is Uncle Owen actor Joel Edgerton.

"I haven't heard," he told Slash Film (via SFFGazette.com). "Either it's happening and they don't want me or it...I don't know, I haven't, no. The short answer is no, I haven't. And I'm not even faking that I don't know."

"But, if it does happen and I am in it, I'll probably be wearing brown, or some shade of brown. That's all I know."

For now, it looks like Obi-Wan's story is over, though at least we finally got to see it play out after years of false starts for a big screen version of the story.

Talking at Star Wars Celebration back in April, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said, "[Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 ]is not in active development. But I never say never, because there’s always the possibility. That show was so well-received and [director] Deborah Chow did such a spectacular job. Ewan McGregor really wants to do another."

"Everybody’s all hands on deck with what we’re doing right now, as you can see by what we showed everybody [at the Celebration]," Kennedy added. "We’ll turn our attention to [Obi-Wan Kenobi] again maybe down the road."

Obi-Wan Kenobi begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat - the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.

The series stars Ewan McGregor, reprising his role as the iconic Jedi Master, and also marked the return of Hayden Christensen in the role of Darth Vader before he later reprised the role in Ahsoka. Joining the cast are Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is directed by Deborah Chow and executive-produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Deborah Chow, Ewan McGregor and Joby Harold. All episodes are now streaming on Disney+.

Just like the MCU D+, they are pumping out too much Star Wars shows stuff & slowly killing it. It just doesn't feel like a special must watch event anymore.

@dragon316 -

You are right about that. Hollywood milks everything great until they ruin it.

Star Wars, Alien, Terminator, Halloween, etc.

*sign* can we already quit with these spin-off's of dead legacy characters and start making a real new universe? this is the card that will win lucasfilm again. new era new universe new characters new ships new planets. it takes a real talent to create this but no one at lucasfilm/disney is capable of this.

Can we not? The first season was such a mess it didn't even make sense in its own storyline, much less as part of a greater universe.

I’m getting the impression that one of the first things Bob Iger did when he returned to the CEO position at Disney was cut about half of all future Disney+ shows. Obi-Wan Kenobi wasn’t terrible; I’d argue that the writing, acting and direction of the show was substantially better than the Prequels. But it had some problems, and I didn’t finish the season/series excited for more.

Finale should have been....

-Obi-Wan damages Vader's mask and they have their back and forth
-As Obi-Wan walks away, Vader lashes out and that's when he buries Obi-Wan and says "now I have the high ground".
-Vader leaves and moves on believing he killed Obi-Wan (they dont see each other again until ANH)
-Obi-Wan senses Luke is in trouble and gains the strength to break out of the rubble to go save him

For the love of god. Stop this theory crap. There isn't going to be another season.

@CaptainCheese - I wouldn’t say never, but shelved at the moment. Hayden is back as Anakin and the fans love it. If there’s a good story, this time, maybe spending time with young Luke and/or Jabba the Hutt and some bounty hunters, you could have a decent story there. Ewan McGregor loves that character, so don’t say never.

@CaptainCheese - Theories equals clickbait (which keeps this wagon train rolling).

I personally hate it.

Most people don't realize that in Lucas' Star Wars, The Force was guiding events. Making things happen. It was not just a super power. And The Force manipulated things to get Owen out of the way of Luke's path.

In the Disney Star Wars it's The Vagina that guides events. So we are getting retcons about how spoiled brat Leia was actually the 'New Hope' and Luke was just a dumb boy.
