Yesterday, Lucasfilm shared the first trailer for The Acolyte and it's definitely got Star Wars fans talking. Set during the High Republic era, the Disney+ series will explore a period that, thus far, has largely been relegated to comic books and novels.

Only one character from those - Vernestra Rwoh - will appear in The Acolyte, with the plan being to introduce a new set of leads who will presumably take centre stage throughout a few seasons (eventually leading us into the events of The Phantom Menace and the resurgence of the Sith).

Thanks to SFFGazette.com, we now have a gallery of stills from the show offering a closer look at key moments in the trailer. With those come official character names and descriptions for each of The Acolyte's leads.

What do they tell us? There's nothing too revealing here, but we now have a better idea of who everyone is and what they'll bring to the table...

Amandla Stenberg plays Mae – an individual that gets swept up into a sinister mystery, one that puts her into the centre of conflict in unexpected ways.

Lee Jung-Jae plays Master Sol – a wise, highly respected, powerful Jedi master, strong in the ways of the force, who is going through an emotional conflict.

Manny Jacinto plays Qimir – a former smuggler who now makes his living as a trader. He procures unusual things and enjoys a life of leisure.

Carrie-Ann Moss plays Master Indara – a Jedi master of great physical and mental skill.

Dean Charles Chapman plays Master Tobin – a depiction for this character was not shared.

Joonas Suotamo plays Master Kelnacca – a Jedi loner that lives a solitary life.

Jodie Turner-Smith plays Mother Aniseya – the leader of a coven of Witches who value their independence along with the preservation of their beliefs and powers.

Charlie Barnett plays Yord Fandar – a Jedi knight and Jedi temple guardian is an overachiever and a rule follower. His need to be by-the-book nature can cloud his judgment.

Dafne Keen plays Jecki Lon – a Jedi Padawan, the apprentice to Master Sol. She is young, but conducts herself with maturity.

Rebecca Henderson plays Vernestra Rwoh – an elder Jedi master who has ascended the ranks of the Jedi from a teenage prodigy to a leader in the Jedi order.

"I'm gonna be straight with you. They do not," The Acolyte showrunner Leslye Headland recently told Collider when they asked if we'll see more than just Vernestra from the books. "Part of that is because I wanted to save some people for Season 2. I really focused on Vern. Vern was a character that really jumped out at me immediately as someone that I wanted to see as an arc for where we were with the Jedi when we come into this story."

"I hope the High Republic fans are excited by the white robes, because we really were intent on using them," she continued. "Not only because that was a nod to the books, but also because I think it really thematically explains a lot. They're not getting into a bunch of skirmishes, you know? They're wearing all white, because not much is happening."

"You're gonna see some stuff from the EU, you're gonna see some aliens from Clone Wars in there, references to the special editions. There's a lot of fun stuff in there that's not necessarily connected to The Mandalorian or The Skywalker Saga."

Check out those new stills from The Acolyte below.

Interesting that they didn’t give a description for Dean Charles Chapman’s character aside from him being a Master already which is weird since he’s a young guy…

User Comment Image

I would have assumed he was a padawan or something but oh well.

I don’t think we even see him in the trailer unless he’s the guy standing behind Carrie Anne Moss & Lee Jung Jae in that one picture or the person Amandla’s character sees from afar near the end of the trailer.

Anyway , this seems like it’ll be good so looking forward to it!!.

Kinda have to turn your brain off with the fight scenes, the girl would get her arm chopped off using that knife if any Jedi just pulled their saber out. Other then that I’m looking forward to this

I never once took the starwars fan community as racist or sexist, I always saw them as harmless geeks who have a common interest. So i dont get this need to overcompensate by having every new character be black or a woman. We just had Reva ruin the Obi Wan show and whats-her-name take Mandalorian’s place as leader. Its weird and borderline bullying at this point cuz the show looks like it sucks yet again. The issue I got is how did Qui Gon die from an injury Reva and the asian girl from Ahsoka survived? Anakin would have literally not become darth vader if Qui Gon had woman power by his side

@Matchesz - every new character be black or a woman”

outside of Reva and This who are all these new characters that are black? Most have been background characters. You got Finn as well but that’s 3 main characters out of 5 movies and a bunch of tv shows lol.

Also want to point out that none of them were the lead characters. Well the jury still out on this girl. Reva was annoying but she was still secondary to Kenobi.

@Matchesz - how did maul survive being cut in half? How did Vader survive being burned alive and loss of limbs? The dark side. That’s how Reva survived. Qui Gon was part of the light side.

Matchesz - 3/20/2024, 7:28 AM
@Taonrey - ok I should just say every new character is decidedly a woman, but this just feels like a rehash of what Reva’s character was, like they failed to have Reva connect to the audience the way they wanted so we’re going through the same exact storyline with a younger actress. She’s obv going to be bad that will turn sympathetic in the end tell me i’m wrong

@Matchesz - imagine that, a universe of trillions has some coloured and female characters in it. Makes sense it's not just a bunch of white dudes
Taonrey
Taonrey - 3/20/2024, 9:11 AM
@Matchesz - oh you’re definitely right about her being bad and becoming sympathetic. They did it with kylo and Reva and they will do it here. Star Wars is the definition of recycled plot lines.

"The dark side. That’s how Reva survived. Qui Gon was part of the light side." - @Mrnorth1921

(Mumbles): "Jesus Chri..."
Do you "READ"?!!!
How did a NON-SITH, NON-JEDI, NON-FORCE-SENSITIVE human survive being impaled by a phucking lightsaber? @Matchesz typed that the girl from Ahsoka survived. The girl from Ahsoka is NOT force-sensitive Sith "OR" Jedi member. How the flying phuck did she survive when Qui Gonn died?
Mrnorth1921
Mrnorth1921 - 3/20/2024, 4:04 PM
@videovac - she was force sensitive. The show proved it. She has low midichorlians but was a Jedi trained. And she got stabbed in the stomach and was found immediately by Ahsoka. Qui Gon was stabbed close to the heart. Right below the sternum. Close to the heart.

Sabine was stabbed right in her stomach. Probably near her appendix.

So interesting how the response is so split.

I just felt apathy after watching this Couldn’t care less. It’ll likely continue the trend of low viewership numbers the brand has seen for a while now.

@mountainman - That is just my general view on Star Wars right now. Lots has been lackluster and it almost feels like work to catch up just to be able to watch the next thing.

Same for the MCU, I'm behind on shows and movies. I might get to some eventually but find myself wanting to watch something of higher quality or wanting to just play BG3 since the story is amazing

''Part of that is because I wanted to save some people for Season 2''

As much as I look forward to the show and seeing the High Republic on screen, I don't think S2 should be a focus already. Let's see S1 earn it first.

@bkmeijer1 - I agree

I do think it’s good to have plans or ideas still for future seasons though.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 3/20/2024, 9:31 AM
@TheVisionary25 - I don't mind there being some idea where the story can go, but it just feels that almost all tv shows nowadays are too focused on that.

A lot of tv shows end on cliffhangers or tell stories that are obviously part of a larger narrative, and that's kinda annoying imo.
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 3/20/2024, 9:32 AM
@bkmeijer1 - to be fair , I did hear that this won’t end on a cliffhanger which if true is good

I get ya though.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 3/20/2024, 9:36 AM
@TheVisionary25 - that would be great. Each season (or movie) should focus on a story of it's own.

Think that's what made something like John Wick so great. It hinted at a larger world and did a lot of worldbuilding, but it never let it take over.

Trailer was okay. They really didn’t change up the aesthetic enough for me to help this era stand out from from the others

This show is why there’s not a Mandalorian season 4. They could only afford one of these Star Wars shows, so The Mandalorian was turned into a movie.

The same will be done for The Acolyte, 2-3 seasons and a movie.

This is the way. Your eyes can deceive you, don’t trust them.

The showrunner did her job in doing some homework research for it. You can tell she's passionate.

And I wasn't expecting to see Dafne Keen to be under a lot of make up for alien life form prosthetics, but still looking forward to her character.

Amandla Stenberg sure has come a long way from just playing Rue in The Hunger Games.
