Moving pretty far away from her Smallville role of Lana Lang, Kreuk portrays homicide detective Catherine Chandler who comes into contact with Jay Ryan's Vincent Koslow, the "beast" (more accurately an army experiment gone awry). Unbeknownst to Catherine, Vincent had rescued her nine years earlier on the night her mother was killed and now the two of them are exploring their connection with each other, while providing mutual assistance in solving crimes in the show's more procedural approach than the original had.

The show from the '80s was decidedly more fantasy-oriented in nature, with Ron Perlman's Vincent more of a noble lion-man, who lives among a society situated in a series of tunnels beneath the streets of New York. Linda Hamilton, of course, played that show's Beauty.

In the following video interview - which includes the participation of CBM's Ed Gross - Kristin Kreuk and Jay Ryan discuss the show and their roles.
