Late last night, the news broke that Supernatural star Jensen Ackles is producing The Winchesters, a prequel series that will see him reprise the role of Dean to narrate the story of John and Mary Winchester. Jared Padalecki took to Twitter to express his disappointment that he hadn't been told about plans for the series by his former co-star, and clearly would have appreciated being given the opportunity to return as Sam Winchester.
In a now-deleted Tweet, the Walker star even took aim at Supernatural co-executive producer Robbie Thompson (who will also produce The Winchesters) by saying, "Et tu brute? Wow. What a truly awful thing you’ve done. #Bravo you coward." So, yeah, it was a pretty messy situation which put something of a dampener on the big announcement about the spinoff.
Well, the on screen brothers have now made things right, with both men sharing Tweets that confirm they've had a conversation and there's no bad blood. Sam and Dean frequently fell out in Supernatural before putting their differences aside, so it feels somewhat appropriate that the same thing has happened in real life.
It's easy to see this from both sides: Ackles knows Padalecki is busy with Walker and likely saw this as a project he could tackle, expanding a world he loves. However, Jared no doubt feels the same sense of ownership over these characters and surely would have appreciated being told about the announcement beforehand (it does sound like he could be involved in some way now).
Honestly, we're just glad they've made peace!
Supernatural creator Eric Kripke also shared his thoughts on Twitter, saying: "When @JensenAckles first told me this story, I loved it. He & @DanneelHarris & rthompson1138 are the perfect people to make it. (The other perfect person is too busy Texas Rangering.) Thanks for carrying the torch, guys, go kick it in the ass. Proud of you. #SPN #SPNFamily"
We'll keep you guys updated as we learn more about plans for The Winchesters.
