SCOOBY-DOO's Grey Griffin Reflects On Bringing Daphne Into SUPERNATURAL For Animated Episode (Exclusive)

"Scoobynatural" was one of the most memorable episodes of Supernatural to ever air on The CW, and Scooby-Doo legend Grey Griffin has now reflected on what exactly being part of the series meant to her...

Grey Griffin has literally hundreds of credits to her name, including Kitana in Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms (we'll have the full interview to share with you soon). However, one of the most iconic has to be Daphne in the Scooby-Doo franchise, a role she also lent her voice to for a very special episode of Supernatural's thirteenth season: "Scoobynatural."

This episode saw Sam, Dean, and Castiel sucked into the animated world of Scooby-Doo, and hilarity followed (including Jensen Ackles' Dean Winchester crushing on Daphne in a big way).

When we recently had Grey on the phone, we took the opportunity to ask what that experience was like and got her reaction to the positive response from Supernatural fans. "I know! It’s so funny because I didn’t know that Misha Collins was in it. He was a dad at the school my children went to and I just thought of him as this dad there. Then, I remember seeing him in Supernatural and going, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s him!’ I had no idea because we recorded totally separately [Laughs]."

"It’s funny because they have these conventions and this really, really strong fan following. Right before the world shut down, I was in Las Vegas hugging hundreds of people at one of those Supernatural conventions because they invited Matthew [Lillard] and me to be a part of it," Grey continued. "I’m so honoured to be part of the universe and conventions with them as the fans are so wonderful and welcoming. It’s a tight-knit family, and I’m glad to be part of that family now."

Supernatural ended with its fifteenth season, but a spinoff - titled The Winchesters - is in the early stages of development at The CW. The show will focus on John and Mary Winchester, though Ackles is expected to lend his voice to the project as a narrator (he's also producing). It's unclear whether Jared Padalecki will factor into proceedings, though we're guessing he'll be included in some form.

Make sure to check out Grey's thoughts on returning as Asajj Ventress in the Star Wars Universe here.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms is available now on 4K/Blu-ray & Digital!

Why they didn't get this group for Scoob will never make any sense to me. They've been at it for so long. Anyway, glad to see they're still going strong in other ways

Scoobynatural was, without a doubt, the best episode of the later seasons of Supernatural. I remember when the episode first aired they said that there was a possibility of doing another crossover with Scooby Doo, I guess that went out the window when they announced the end of the series in season 15. Still, it'd be cool if they managed another crossover maybe as a direct to DVD special. They could advertise it as a lost episode or something.
