VENOM Will Reportedly Feature Flashbacks To An Unexpected Time And Setting
There's an awful lot we don't know about Venom but it's now being widely reported that the upcoming Spider-Man spinoff could take us to an unexpected time and place. Hit the jump for what we know so far!
With production on Venom now officially underway, some fresh details about the spinoff are finally beginning to surface. Apparently, the plan is for at least some scenes to be set in Asia with a casting call going out for "villagers without modern haircuts." That could point to Vietnam flashbacks or even a feudal Japan setting as we potentially learn a lot more about the origin story of the alien symbiote.
Bear in mind that we have no idea whether or not Spider-Man actually exists in the world Venom calls home, so it's feasible that the symbiote has been on Earth for centuries or that it was created by the government and used in various combat situations (that would obviously take inspiration from both the Ultimate Universe and the time Flash Thompson spent wearing the suit for the US government).
We'll just have to wait and see but the signs may very well be pointing to Venom being far from a faithful adaptation of the source material. That will obviously be upsetting to some fans but was to be expected when Sony has decided to move forward with Spider-Man movies which have no connection to the wall-crawler appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Here's hoping it all works, eh?
