Michael Fassbender To Star In ASSASSIN'S CREED

There has been talk of a big screen adaptation of Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed for a while now, and while fans were worried they would be getting another Doom or Resident Evil, A-List actor Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class) has signed up for the title role!

Variety reports that Michael Fassbender will star in and co-produce the big screen adaptation of Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed. While he will play the lead character, it is unknown whether they will use Altair (Assassin's Creed - 2007), Ezio (Assassin's Creed II - 2009) or Connor (Assassin's Creed III - 2012). The first option seems most likely, especially as the site describes the plot as revolving, "around a man who learns his ancestors were trained assassins after he is kidnapped by a secret org with ties to the Knights Templar, and sent back in time to retrieve historical artefacts."

"Michael Fassbender was our first choice," said Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Paris-based Ubisoft Motion Pictures. "Michael (Fassbender) is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor." It is thought that in order to maintain a greater level of control, Ubisoft will develop the film themselves, although Sony Pictures may end up distributing. "We're open to re-discuss with the key studios once the production package is finalized," There is currently no details on when Assassin's Creed will begin production or be released.

This has got to be one of the most spot on casting choices ever. I just hope it turns out to be good especially with a actor like Michael Fassbender.

if this movie ever comes to fruition, i can bet, no in fact, am 300% certain that the never shy Samuel L. Jackson will find his way on to this movie. the guy's in everything! it was a shock to the system learning that he was in Jurassic park, Good fellas even coming to America.

Fassbender is awesome, he'd make a fine older Ezio but...I hope they don't make him Altair, they should cast a young middle Eastern actor as Altair

Holy crap that's awesome.

Altair, Ezio and Desmond all have the same model in the games, btw. Don't know about Connor tho.

Also I have a theory about assassin's creed. To me the memories aren't on the genes, but Desmond is actually a reincarnation of those guys. Since many people would repel the idea they came up with the Animus thing. That would explain the "multi cultural and creeds team" warning in the beginning of the games.

I wonder if they'll have him play all the ancestors? If not, my bet is that he's only playing Desmond. I mean in the first 3 games the ancestors looked like Desmond, but in Revelations Altair and Ezio were redesigned so they both looked slightly similar to Desmond, but different to each other.

@Fogs no, the "multi cultural team" warning is a reference to the developers of the game, it means that the game wasn't meant to offend any particular beliefs, and wasn't meant to be based on any either. It means the game is a work of fiction that everyone should be able to enjoy. So it doesn't mean the games are using reincarnation or other religious means to explore the ancestors, it means the exact opposite. Plus, the game is very sci-fi based in a subtle way (similar to Inception's sci-fi), so for the film to change that would already be a major departure.

wow, this is quite a surprise. Just like grif said (I thought I would never say those words lol), I am also not really a big fan of Assassins Creed because of their type of gameplay (even though I have great respect for the innovativeness of Assassins Creed, it truly is one of the finest game series out there today) so I dont know if Fassbender fits the role but he is an amazing actor so he should make it work

I have a friend who is a big fan of both the game and Fassbender so he will be very happy about this! I would love to see this movie because even though I dont like the gameplay, I love the plot of the games (from what I have heard about it)

Just dont mess it up, game based movies dont have a good track record. The only ones I have ever liked is Resident Evil 1 & 2, Tomb Raider 1 & 2, (the alright) Hitman and the Pokemon movies in my childhood

Cool. I like both characters but he better play Altier. Hollywood has a tendency to skip over continuity to go straight for the more popular characters.

Still, Ezio's origin story would be ideal for a movie set up.

Well, considering the heritage of the assassin is Middle Eastern and Michael Fassbender is, in fact, not, that eliminates the first story as making any rational sense. Of course they can change it up, but as far as coming together reasonably, I would recommend using Ezio, since he's at least European.

I could see him playing Desmond. But thats it. I wonder will they have an actor for Altair that will be different from Desmond. Best game series of all time. So if they screw this up which they prob will. Then they can suck it hard!

Good news and all but Fassbender looks nothing like any of the characters and he's to to old. But maybe he could play ezio, not Altair.

the way it looks like i guess that he will play desmond (who is the actual main character of the series and the only character who matches the description they gave for the movie) and that they will have him play altair here as well then move on to ezio and connor in the sequels. it makes sense since the characters are modeled after each other and it's an easy excuse to give fassbender more screen time.

connor may be difficult because it seems like his character model is different from the others and i would hate for them to use the native american equivalent of black face but they will have time to work that out later.

also the story will have to be changed significantly to match the new media. there's a lot about the way the animus works in game that would be confusing in a movie, like the sync bar. also to make the plot a more flowing narrative.

finally altair first then ezio. they need to get the audience used to the idea of the order and that is best done with altair's story. ezio's must be saved for the sequel.

Although Fassbender is a great actor, I think the guy from prison break would make a better Altair
