WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes has made no secret of his acting aspirations, and while the American Nightmare is best known for his work in the squared circle, he also starred as Derek Sampson in more than half a dozen episodes of Arrow.
After helping to successfully launch AEW, Rhodes is back in WWE and recently competed in the main event of WrestleMania where he tried (and sadly failed) to defeat Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. The Show of Shows took place in Hollywood, and a new report reveals Rhodes took some very important meetings while there.
Fightful Select (via TheRingReport.com and ActioNewz.com) reveals that he met for a number of potential movie roles and is said to be particularly interested in playing Johnny Cage in the upcoming Mortal Kombat sequel.
There's reportedly also been talk of a possible Legend of Zelda movie featuring the pro wrestler.
Rhodes wouldn't be the first wrestler to make the leap to Hollywood as both Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and John Cena had successful stints in WWE before finding fame and fortune on the big screen. As well as appearing in the Fast & Furious movies, they're also part of the DCEU as Black Adam and Peacemaker, respectively (but have yet to share the screen).
Despite his hopes to star in Mortal Kombat 2, Rhodes reportedly has no plans to become a part-timer in the squared circle and would only book roles around his WWE commitments. That's likely to limit the projects he can be part of.
WWE Superstar The Miz has previously expressed an interest in joining the iconic video game franchise as Johnny in a future live-action project, though we'd give the American Nightmare the edge over him. Cage's debut was teased right at the end of Mortal Kombat and the fan-favourite character is clearly set to be a big part of this eventual follow-up.
