We recently found out that Lewis Tan (Iron Fist) had landed a role in the upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot, but his part was not revealed in the report. Well, the actor may have just provided us with a pretty big hint as to the identity of his character.

Tan is currently preparing to film his scenes for the video game adaptation, and shared the following photo to Twitter. Mortal Kombat fans will recognize this pose a variation on one of the meditative positions adopted by Kung Lao during gameplay.

Lao is not the only possibility, of course, but with Liu Lang already cast it does seem like a fairly safe bet. Interestingly, Tan says that he's "leading the film" here, which obviously suggests he won't be playing a secondary character like Reptile or Noob Saibot.

Tan joins Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Joe Taslim as Sub Zero, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Ludi Lin as Liu Lang, Jessica McNamee as Sonya and Josh Lawson as Kano.

Plot details on the new movie remain a mystery for now, but it's assumed that it'll follow the basic premise of the original video game: a group of warriors assemble to compete in a tournament to protect the Earth from the demonic forces of Outworld.

Mortal Kombat is set to commence production in South Australia later this year, and will slice its way into theaters on March 5, 2021.

So he's playing the arrogant guy who wants something another guy truly deserves?

Well, you can't say that isn't good casting.

I find there’s a lot of hype around this guy.. but I find his acting lacking .. not impressed

this cast so far is insane ... i'm digging it ...they probably have to explain time travel if kung lao is involved

@knocturnalzen10 - Nah, they wouldn't need to talk about time travel.

Kung Lao thats playable in the games is the Descendant of "The Great Kung Loa". The OG Kung Lao was the one that was the Mortal Kombat champion for generations until he was killed by Goro.

Current Kung Lao is a different guy, but still my favorite MK character.

This could be epic! Unless they start putting a lot of jokes in it!

@Forthas -
It's not going to be. The writer has already said that it's going to be tongue-in-cheek and influenced by Deadpool. If that isn't bad enough:

• The director has done nothing before this. This is a big studio production of a popular franchise, yet the director has literally zero experience in the film industry.

• The screenwriter has also done absolutely nothing before this. And leaks from a previous version of the script (from the same writer) are also atrocious. The main characters weren't even from the games, Raiden was a teenage boy, and Scorpion was caucasian. He confirmed on his Twitter that the leaks are real, and this is an actual draft he wrote.

All of his upcoming projects are video game movies as well, so don't expect a well-written film.

• All of the producers except James Wan have godawful track records. It's also the same studio as the first two films (which were complete cheesefests).

• The film has been repeatedly delayed, and WB previously called it their version of the Avengers... Which has nothing to do with Mortal Kombat.

Kumkani

@MuadDib - I don't think anyone has anything to say about Tan's acting ability lol. It's mostly his good looks and martial arts skills that makes him a thing.

Before he posted this pic I thought they were gonna race swap Cage & cast him as good old Johnny based on his Cockiness.

Now that it seems he's Kung lao I'm intrigued to see who snaps the role of cage as he is my all time favourite MK character & I thought Linden Ashby was superb in the original.

@CorndogBurglar- i thought the current one we got is the Great Kung lao , my bad . then that would make sense wise , because it can get a bit confusing with Raiden tampering with time so much .

He's Kung Lao. He's a perfect fit and it's just about the only character from the games that he could be at this point

@TMW1987ProudProWrestlingFan Johnny is arrogant and cocky yet charming though, isn't he?
Lewis is just an arrogant brat.

Be funny though if it turns out he's not Kung Lao or anyone like that.

What is exactly arrogant in his post? His message to people to never give up? How do you know he will not be one of the leads?

I love how stubborn people are.

I called this when he was first cast. This role and blind kenshi are the only fits. And if he's a lead, then Kung lao makes sense.
I can see them going the game of thrones route and killing a lead character such as him

@TMW1987ProudProWrestlingFan - Im hope they will cast Alain Moussi for the role of Johnny Cage!! The guy was born to play this role...

Linden Ashby was great but his fighting skills were limited.
