New Prince Of Persia images

Before people start arguing about it, Prince Of Persia IS also a comic book--even though it started as a video game.

Someone has nabbed some images of Jake Gyllenhaal, topless again, as Dastan, the Prince of Persia. This is yet another look for the Prince, although Jake is once again looking buff, with a scar on left arm and abdomen. Which of the Dastan video game portrayals do these images fit into? The description that comes alongside the images, and reads as an official blurb, states:

“an adventurous prince who teams up with a rival princess [Tamina, played by Gemma Arterton] to stop an angry ruler from unleashing a sandstorm that could destroy the world.”

If you look closely, you can also see people behind Jake, possibly working on the set, suggesting these shots are not lifted directly from the movie.

So far this isn't a redeeming press release from his role in BrokeBack. He still looks like someone's b*tch.

Check out what I posted about what Jordan Mechner, creator of P.O.P and co-screen writer, said about the movie.

Jake Gyllenhall as Prince of Persia? He is unsuited. Was there a shortage of a more ethinic actor?

I think Oded Fehr(from the Mummy, Resident Evil) would have been better served as the Prince of Persia instead of this broke back mountain cowboy.

Shalim Ortiz could do the role justice too but I like Oded best.

SoulAllFlush - 3/9/2009, 4:49 AM
Oded Fehr would have been fantastic, but no, GOD FORBID Hollywood cast an Egyptian or an Arab as an Arabian Prince. That'd be like having a film about ancient Greece with a Greek looking cast.

I think he looks good as the prince teh fact that its called the sands of time tells me they are only useing the games as a story witch is awesome. films dont do that tomb raider suckt cus they didnt use any game story same with res evil all 3 films were crap again didnt use the game story im lookin forward 2 this i hope its gud . yer i completly agree with u FOTC i dnt really c the problem with him being in brokeback it wasnt the best film ever but who cares its jst a film it dnt mean he is guna try make the prince a gay cowboy does it i think sum of u shud stop complaining and b a bit gratful ppl are willing 2 make films of games and comics the films may not allways b the best ever made but its still cool.

Exactly fotc, i think people forget that Ledger was the other "gay cowboy" in Brokeback..which was a good movie with a great performance by a great actor..Jake Gylenhaal! But he does seem woefully miscast in this..does he not realize that all game to movie adaptations are pre destined to suck balls?

Seekay...well he isn't going to be dirty 100% of the time....he is royalty. He's not going to be in his palace/room all dirtied up

wait until he steps out of there and leaves his palace and starts slicing and dicing...then he'll get a bit dirty

I agree w/ Ror that all video game adaptations are destined to suck but but maybe, just maybe there is hope, maybe PoP will break that horrible cycle the script was wrote by the actual creator this time around.

i kinda don't care cause since it is his baby and all he can make whatever changes he wants and i wont complain as long as the movie is still good, if it's boring and lame then i will complain.
Osiris
Osiris - 3/9/2009, 8:28 AM
oh and there is footage out there you just have to search a little for it, I'm just hoping they don't take out everyone turning into sand demons cause that was awesome in the game and would look amazing in a movie, and it's not like they can't get the funding look at the sfx that Bruckheimer put in the Pirate movies same guy is making this.

Someone's bitch... Totally!!! Which is why his performance in brokeback was good. It suited him perfectly. Heath on the other hand was a talented actor which could pull off ANY performance as unatural as it could be. But this is a discrace to one of my favorite videogames. Is Uwe Boll on this??? Hell, after seeing these picks, it couldn't hurt it further. For some reason, this has "The Musketeer" written all over it. I dunno...i just get that "feeling", lookin' at it.

Ah well, i guess it leave's room for the best videogame adaptation to film which has yet to come... Castlevania!!! I have full faith in Paul W. Anderson and his bitch "protege" which will direct it... for now.

Jordan Mechner, Creator of Prince Of Persia, Speaks

He wrote an article about the legacy of Prince of Persia in December's Game Informer magazine on the challenges of translating it into different mediums (because he helped write the movie script too).

"The biggest difference between writing a game and writing a movie: Movies are about the story and characters. Games are about playing.

The real story of a game isn't the one that's told in the dialogue and cinematic cutscenes - "In a galaxy torn by civil war, one lone starfighter..." - but the story the player tells afterwards "I was down to my last ship, 50 points short of getting an extra life...I'd cleared the screen all except for this one small rock going super fast-and then the flying saucer came..."

A trap for game creators is to think that by increasing the complexity and cinematic scope of the first narrative-or, if it's a film adaptation, by borrowing elements that worked great in the movie- they're making a better and richer game. The second narrative is the one that needs to be complex and gripping, if the game is any good.

It's when those two narratives work in sync that video games are capable of emotional effects that are unique to this art form. Like when you're down to your last few hit points, and your companion who's fighting alongside you accidentally shoots you in the butt with an arrow...then apologizes when you yell at her. Creating such moments requires teamwork, planning, and a solid understanding of game and movie craft.

A similar pitfall awaits screenwriters adapting a game to film. Many video games have the surface elements of a great movie: action, spectacle, a cool-looking hero, stuff blowing up. But a game is exciting because as the player you're doing it. experiencing the triumphs and setbacks yourself. Take away the gameplay and you're left with a story- often the weakest element of the original game.

To write Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time as a screenplay, I took my own game script as an inspiration, not a blueprint. One of the greatest pleasures of a movie- especially on the scale that Disney, Mike Newell, and Jerry Bruckheimer can deliver- is seeing a fantastic ancient empire brought to life with an epic scope and a rich, diverse, and human cast of characters. The Sands of Time video game script was tailored for the PlayStation 2, to be played with a controller in hand- different constraints, different objectives. Some game fans may wish we'd made a movie that literally followed the game plot. I think if we had, they'd be disappointed."

I think Sendhil Ramamurthy ("Mohinder" from Heroes) would have been a mutch better casting choice, but I'll reserve my opinion until I've actually seen something substantial.

Yes, Jake is a good actor I agree...Heath absolutely without a doubt. But it doesnt mean they have to have all the roles or they are perfect for it. I dont care who is gay or not. To each his own. But it wasnt the best movie & when you say his name it's one of the 1st thing people will relate him to like it or not.

I dont think Jake is suited to the role even if he is a good actor. You have someone like Oded who is from Israel, looks more persian, can act, can ride horses (didnt have to learn for the movie), fights and looks more like a man, like royalty than the boyish charm that Jake has. I want a MAN to take care of buisensss not a boy who grew his hair out and grew a 5 o'clock shadow to go save the world. IMHO. I know he is not a boy...he is 20 something, I realize but he still looks young, and not royal and not persian.

LMAO JEEZ guys.....lets see how this turns out first...i dont think jake was too bad a choice for this...he is white but he has a look to him...he could pass as the prince of persia and y'all should remember when heath was first cast as the joker....i'm sure a bunch of y'all thot he would suck (including me)or when downey was cast as tony stark....but guess what happened, they both killed it...so lets at least wait for the trailer....

Well talent wise, Prince of Persia really isn't a very demanding part to play so anybody could have done a great job. But this guy's a DOUCHE!!! I remember being quite found of this character and now, that aspect is gone. This is gonna look like a bad "the king and I" movie with secret passage ways. Why not make it in a freakin musical while your at it??? I would have prefered a Disney animated movie than this. And looking at the concept of those games, the story itself is so basic and the "coolness" was all character and gameplay related. Since there will be no gamplay, then the only thing that was left was a cool character... that's right out the door. They will have to come up with revolutionnary fighting and a killer adventure aspect for it not to suck but for now... "The Musketeer" all over again!!!
marshmallowyme
marshmallowyme - 3/9/2009, 1:09 PM
I think it's really funny that as soon as the dreaded Hollywood puts its greasy little finger on a movie everyone freaks out that a white guy is playing the Prince, even though NOBODY was freaking out when the series first got revamped and the title character was... How should I say... Less than dark-skinned?

Sniveling fanboys need to go back and look at the source material and tell me that Jake doesn't look perfect for the role (look at the second pic, not the first one with the little lost puppy look like "Whoa, how did I get in Egypt?"). None of you were whining about how unrealistically white the Prince looked in the game, and because the character was created by computers and not two ethnically-traceable parents no one could condemn him for being one particular race. All we knew was what he looked like, and I'll be damned if he looks like an Arab that bakes under the sun all day. He looks like [frick]ing Jake Gyllenhaal if you ask me.

And to all those Brokeback haters, if you guys were so afraid of homosexuality maybe you shouldn't have watched a movie about gay cowboys, and maybe you shouldn't watch this movie staring a buffed up shirtless male movie star. Just sayin'.
