Idris Elba just played a member of Task Force X in The Suicide Squad, but the British actor is about to trade in Bloodsport for a very different type of badass in Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
As you can see below, Elba took to Twitter earlier today to confirm that he will lend his voice to Knuckles in the highly anticipated sequel. Now, he joins a cast that includes Ben Schwartz, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Adam Pally, Natasha Rothwell, Shemar Moore, and Jim Carrey.
It's no big secret that Knuckles will be in the sequel as a stand-in was spotted on the movie's set. Tails will also return in a follow-up to the 2019 hit that promises to further explore the Sonic mythology.
"After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is ready for more freedom, and Tom and Maddie agree to leave him home while they go on vacation," reads a leaked synopsis. "But, no sooner are they gone, when Dr. Robotnik comes back, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to both build and destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands."
Elba feels like a great choice for this version of Knuckles, and he's clearly going to help make the character a formidable opponent for Sonic. The actor is no stranger to voiceover work, either, as he's previously lent his voice to movies like Finding Dory, The Jungle Book, and Zootopia.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is set to be released on April 8, 2022.
