Many have applauded Wonder Woman for its portrayal of a strong, action oriented female character that women and little girls can look up to when they go see the film intheaters. However, it would seem not everyone shares the same sentiments.

Speaking with The Guardian about the re-release of Terminator 2: Judgment Day in 3D, director James Cameron was asked what he thought about the excitement over Wonder Woman. Not mincing words, Cameron said that he believes that the film actually takes women's representation on the big screen a step back. He even went so far as to call the character an, "objectified Icon."

“All of the self-congratulatory back-patting Hollywood’s been doing over Wonder Woman has been so misguided. She’s an objectified icon, and it’s just male Hollywood doing the same old thing! I’m not saying I didn’t like the movie but, to me, it’s a step backwards. Sarah Connor was not a beauty icon. She was strong, she was troubled, she was a terrible mother, and she earned the respect of the audience through pure grit. And to me, [the benefit of characters like Sarah] is so obvious. I mean, half the audience is female!”

Tell us, do you agree with Cameron's perspective? Drop us a comment in the usual place.

Wonder Woman is scheduled to make one last IMAX appearance this Friday, August 25. The movie will be released on Digital Download on August 29th and on blu-ray and DVD on September 19th.

I mean... her outfit is stylised to show off parts of her body, yes, but a woman is allowed to be sexy. And could you imagine the hate if she didn't wear something at least resembling it?

He just sort of sounds very bitter, all "MY character is more feminist than YOUR character!"

@MikeyL - like, a character doesn't have to have a gritty background to be progressive. That's just portraying a different type of woman, which is in itself great! But that doesn't make it better than this portrayal.
